Cambridge Audio AX A35 integrated amplifier

The Cambridge Audio AX A35 integrated amplifier is the second integrated amplifier of the new range of the English manufacturer.

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO AX A35: FRONT PANEL

It is based on the dark aluminium front panel of the Azur series from the 2000's!

In the centre, there is a LCD screen with a blue display. It shows the source and menu information. The selection of the sources is done via 5 small push buttons under the display window.

The big volume potentiometer has been moved on the right of the front panel.

A 6.35mm headphone jack and a 3.5mm Aux input are located symmetrically to the left.

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO AX A35: BACK PANEL

Cambridge Audio offers a very simple and stripped device. At the back of the AX A35, there are 4 analogue inputs and a “record” output.

Vinyl lovers are not forgotten with a MM phono input.

Cambridge Audio has added a USB plug but this one does not process signals, it only offers the possibility to recharge a device.

There is only one speaker output and it accepts bare wires and, better, standard banana plugs.

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO AX A35: TEST AND LISTENING

The Cambridge Audio AX A35 offers a power of 35 Watts per channel at 8 ohms, that make it compatible with most of the 2-way speakers on the market for less than 800€ each pair.

We have successfully combined it with a pair of Fyne Audio F302 tower speakers.

As for the AX A25 integrated amp, the restitution is not aggressive at all and even tends towards softness. However, the dynamic and transparency are better.

In addition, there is an excellent sound scene and a very pleasant fullness.

The phono input also gives outstanding results and will work wonders with an entry-level turntable such as a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon or a Rega Planar 1.
