Grado is one of the oldest private US businesses in the audio industry. The brand is famous for its audio headphones, including: iGrado headphones, Grado SR60i headphones, Grado 80i headphones, Grado SR225i headphones, Grado PS 1000 headphones, Grado RS 2i headphones etc.
Joseph Grado founded it over fifty years ago in his father's grocery store in Brooklyn. In the early years, the company produced cartridges, speakers, turntables and tonearms that are still highly coveted by music lovers. In 1963, Mr Grado decided to focus exclusively on producing his own phono cartridges and has being doing so for the past 21 years! Thus, the flagship MM cartridges are proudly represented by the Grado Black-1 cartridge, the Grado Blue-1 cartridge and the Grado Gold-1 cartridge. For higher end cartridge models, the manufacturer is famous for its the Grado Platinum cartridge, the Grado Sonata cartridge and the Grado Master cartridge and the Grado The Statement cartridge.
The manufacturer's first headphones were unveiled in 1984. They immediately became very popular with the specialist press and music lovers worldwide. Currently Grado holds 48 innovation patents and the cartridges, headphones and preamplifiers are still hand-built and tested in the parent company in New York…
Joseph Grado passed on the torch to his nephew John Grado, who became CEO and owner of 'Grado Laboratories' after sweeping the floors of Grado since the age of 12. In traditional Grado style, John took over the development of the 'Prestige' and 'Reference' cartridge and headphone lines, which have all received praise by the specialist press as well as music lovers and audiophiles.
