After the well-received release of the brand’s ‘flagship vessel’, the Signature 12, Pro-Ject set itself the task of producing a more affordable vinyl turntable. Drawing on all of the expertise and technology developed for its high-end range and EAT products, the Austrian manufacturer has now released the new Signature 10 vinyl turntable, at half the price of the original Signature 12!
Pro-Ject Signature 10 : Tonearm
From far away, it looks like its bigger sister. However, it has evidently undergone a few compromises…
There is the superb single-pivot Signature tonearm. It is identical apart from its length. It is logically 10 instead of 12 inches.
The tonearm of the Signature 10 is equipped with a portable headshell in aluminum. This brings the effective mass of the tonearm up to more than 18g! This makes it compatible with phono cartridges that have a very low compliance (under 8)! It is possible (optional) to mount the cartridge on a wooden headshell (Pro-Ject Signature wooden headshell) or a carbon headshell (Pro-Ject Signature carbon headshell).
The tonearm of the Signature 10 easily enables to make all adjustments possible: the VTA (vertical tracking angle), azimuth, and distance of the tonearm/spindle which enables you to use all cartridges available. The Signature 10 vinyl record player comes with counterweights of 103 g and 145 g, making it compatible with cartridges that weigh between 4.5 and 25 g!
PRO-JECT SIGNATURE 10: PHONO CABLE
This Pro-Ject Signature 10 turntable comes with the Connect It 5P-E phono cable. We encourage you to replace it with a Connect-It Sin 5P CC or another high quality phono cable with a 5 pin Din phono.
Pro-Ject Signature 10 : Plinth and platter
The Pro-Ject Signature 10 vinyl turntable has a mass-loaded subchassis. This creates the effect of significant mass and leads to a very low resonance frequency.
This result is improved by the addition of magnetic feet, which isolates the main chassis.
The platter is digitally manufactured in a massive aluminium block of 30cm in diameter. Its internal circumference is damped by a silicone seal. On top it has a vinyl compression enabling it to avoid using a platter cover.
The platter and the base of the tonearm are mounted on a heavy steel chromed panel totally impenetrable against vibrations. It rests on three feet in Sorbothane that fully insulate it from the main chassis.
The ceramic bearing and pivot are magnetically damped by two repulsive magnets.
A 405 g record clamp in aluminium manufactured with precision enables to clamp the vinyl record on the platter. It is also present on the Signature 12 vinyl turntable of the Austrian manufacturer.
The whole weighs 10.4 kg!
Pro-Ject Signature 10 : Motor and drive
The enormous platter is driven (via a round silicone belt) by a motor manufactured according to a very specific set of specifications enabling a perfectly fluid rotation.
The speed regulation is controlled by two microprocessors and two quartz oscillators, which enable changes in speed between 33 RPM and 45 RPM as well as almost no speed drift.
PRO-JECT SIGNATURE 10: TESTING AND LISTENING
We tested this turntable with the Ortofon Cadenza Blue MC cartridge, the Transfiguration Axia S MC cartridge, and the Benz Micro LP-S MC cartridge.
From the opening bars, we were surprised by the substance and the presence of this Signature 10.
The voices are superbly defined and realistic. The bass is articulated and very dynamic! It goes down vey low with a remarkable nuance. The high end of the spectrum is very good as well. It is very informative and perfectly integrated to the midrange. We do not feel any attenuation despite a smoothness and silkiness dear to analogue.
This Signature 10 is outstanding on all counts (production, user-friendliness, musicality).
The Pro-Ject Signature 10 tonearm is a true success and of rare versatility.

Je suis un heureux possesseur de cette merveille Signature 10,, nous allons aller droit au but , le sont est identique a une salle de concert point . Je tiens d’abord à remercier Franck de m’avoir guidé pour le choix de cette platine ( Pro-ject Signature 10 + Ortofon Cadenza Black , un duo infernal ! ) qui dévoilent la
suprématie du vinyle sur les autres supports ( CD et DSD compris ! ) , ça irritera peut être les défenseurs du numérique mais l’analogique est respectueux des lois de la physique , une vérité qui s’applique à toutes les oreilles d’humains quelque soient leurs
guouts ...
Bref , pour vous résumer , je n’écoute plus les CD ...

Impressionnante cette signature.

Pour commencer, on est saisie par la taille de l’emballage. Boite en boîte de 10 mm d’épaisseur, dont se trouve bien capitonnée, la platine. Une fois déballé, on est impressionné par la taille et la beauté de cette signature 10. Tout comme le plateau à lui seul d’une masse de 10 kg, et le châssis en bois de couleur Olive et pour finir, ce bras très complexe, une vraie horlogerie, quand t’ont voix toutes ces pièces usinées. Pour l’écoute sur le conseil de Franck, j’ai opté pour une cellule Ortofon Cadenza Black. Étant éclectique en matière de musique, je peux vous dire que tout passe très bien. Les graves sont très présents sans dominés, enveloppants, articulés et très dynamiques. Le Médium, là aussi très présent et sans agressivités. Des aigus aiguisés et sans agressivité. N’étant pas spécialiste dans le langage d’un professionnel du son, je l’exprime par mon ressenti et mes mots. Ah ! J’oubliai. J’apprécie le côté pratique du support de bras qui est magnétique, donc pas de crochet à manipuler, ainsi que le lève-bras qui semble être hydraulique ou pneumatique dont la pointe tombe en douceur sur dans le sillon du vinyle. Mon matériel ; Ampli 100 % tube N.O.S de chez Pier Audio ; MS88se. Enceinte Focal ; Electra 1028Be. Pour finir, le préampli est de chez Pro-Ject, tube Box DS2 qui sera prochainement remplacé par le Préamplificateur Phono Sutherland 20/20 sous le conseil de Franck bien sûr. Que dire de plus ... Je ne peux que rejoindre les avis précedents !
De mon coté, j'ai décidé de ma lancer dans l'aventure vinyle depuis qq années, ... mais avec un materiel très moyen ; n 'étant pas expert de la chose, je n'avais pas pris soin a me plonger dedans "correctement" . Et puis, a force de me poser la question, et grâce aux formidables conseils de Franck, jai sauté le pas, .... le résultat est tout simplement incroyable ! Rudement compliqué de l'exprimer avec des mots "experts", mais dans mon vocabulaire de néophyte : ca défonce tout !!!! La puissance du son, les instruments, ... j'en ai eu les larmes aux yeux des la 1ere écoute ; tout est détaillé à la perfection et on a juste l'impression de n'avoir jamais écouté de la musique correctement !
Cette platine est associée a des cables HP supra Quadrax et a une cellule MC Ortofon Cadenza blue. (+ ampli a tube ICON + enceintes Tannoy Cheviot).
