This Pro-Ject Signature 12 vinyl turntable is a fine showcase of the expertise Pro-Ject has acquired over the past 25 years. Each element has been carefully thought out with uncompromising dedication to ensure optimum performance.
Pro-Ject Signature 12: plinth and platter
Like the brand’s earlier models, the Pro-Ject Signature 12 has a mass-loaded subchassis. This creates the effect of significant mass and leads to a very low resonance frequency.
The result is improved by the addition of magnetic feet, which isolates the main chassis.
The platter and tonearm base are secured to a completely vibration-resistant heavy chrome-plated panel. It sits on three TPE vibration isolation bushings that isolate it from the main chassis. The purpose of this design is to ensure that vibrations and resonance from the motor don't disturb playback, while avoiding the ‘spring’ effects of the sub-platter.
Powerful magnets under the platter push it up and away, reducing the weight imposed on the bearing and ceramic ball.
Pro-Ject Signature 12: motors and drive
Both motors were designed according to a specific set of specifications to ensure that they are almost completely still and run noiselessly. Two silicone belts drive a flywheel which sits on a free-standing bearing. This system in turn powers the huge 10.5kg aluminium platter via a third belt.
Speed of this Pro-Ject turntable is controlled by two microprocessors and two quartz oscillators, and can be changed using a stylish LED touchscreen! This lets you select the speed and adjust the pitch with precision. And it tells you the time and date!
Pro-Ject Signature 12: tonearm
The 12 inches tonearm is an example of this remarkable precision. The headshell is removable and attachment is universally compatible (SME, Ortofon, etc.).
The Signature 12 unipivot tonearm is made entirely out of aluminium and sits on a single tip made of ultra hard steel. This pivot system results in next to no friction as well as a excellent tracking of grooves.
It is delivered with several counterweights, so it can be assembled with any type of MM cartridges or MC cartridge. Its effective mass means that it can also handle cartridges with low compliance.
Pro-Ject Signature 12: accessories
The Pro-Ject Signature 12 is delivered with a whole host of accessories: spirit level, digital scales, Align It, strobe discs, protractor, Allen keys, record clamp…
Pro-Ject Signature 12: listening and review
This vinyl turntable deserves a high end cartridge! We listened with a great Ortofon MC cartridge and can assure you that it provides the American and German models twice its its price with some stiff competition!
So if you thought that Pro-Ject could only make budget turntables, forget what you've heard! This Pro-Ject Signature 12 turntable is an all-round outstanding turntable (production quality, user-friendliness, musicality, etc.), consolidating the Austrian brand’s prowess and position as perhaps the best turntable manufacturer around!
