The Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 speakers are elegant floor-standing columns, meticulously designed as three-way speakers optimized for use in spacious rooms ranging from 30 to 50 m2. This model represents the pinnacle of the Davis Acoustics Krypton series, which includes a monitor, the Davis Acoustics Krypton 3, and a smaller column, the Davis Acoustics Krypton 6. It is crafted with the same attention to detail and perfection as the other two speakers.

DAVIS ACOUSTICS KRYPTON 9: DESIGN AND FRONT PANEL

These floor-standing speakers are quite substantial, standing over a meter tall due to their 3-way/4-speaker technology (106 x 19 x 30 cm). Despite their height, the narrow front panel allows for easy placement even in tight spaces.

The speaker grille comes in black or gray jersey or tweed, depending on the finish (black, white, or walnut). It is held in place by magnets, leaving the front panel clean and maintaining the speaker's sleek, contemporary design. They rest on a slightly inclined base that not only ensures perfect stability but also aligns the speakers acoustically.

The Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 features four drivers: the high frequencies are handled by a new 28 mm tweeter with a fabric dome, ensuring precise and detailed treble with minimal distortion. It is complemented by a rear decompression chamber, pushing its resonance frequency beyond 24kHz.

Mid-range frequencies are reproduced by a 130 mm Kevlar driver, 7th generation, paired with a machined metal dispersion bullet. This combination allows for clear reproduction from 55 to 4000 Hz within the three-way configuration, with a crossover limiting from 400 to 4000 Hz.

The low frequencies are managed by two 17 cm cellulose pulp woofers in a Bass Reflex configuration with a front laminar port, facilitating speaker placement and delivering a frequency range from 400 down to below 35 Hz at -3dB.

All four drivers are surrounded by circular foam to minimize proximity diffraction and enhance defined sound response.

DAVIS ACOUSTICS KRYPTON 9: CONNECTION AND PLACEMENT

The Krypton 9 columns feature high-quality gold-plated, insulated terminals (WBT clone) accepting bare wire, spades, or banana plugs.

It's recommended to leave at least 30 cm of space from the rear and side walls, and position them 2.50 to 3 meters apart, slightly angled towards the listening area, to achieve optimal sound spatialization and a three-dimensional effect.

Right from the start, the Krypton 9 speakers exhibit the elegance synonymous with the Davis brand, coupled with surprising neutrality and musicality.

The bass is deep and expansive yet remains precise and well-defined, even when placed near walls, avoiding any overbearing or bloated sound. The overall frequency response is coherent and extensive, with appreciable neutrality.

The Krypton 9 delivers a deep and dynamic sound reproduction with remarkable stereo imaging precision and breadth. The accuracy of the soundstage is exemplary for a floor-standing speaker of this size.

The tweeter excels with its clean, precise sound and excellent resolution without emphasizing the high frequencies. The natural, fast, and clear mid-ranges akin to the Krypton 6 seem to have gained in substance and presence.

The neutral character of these speakers ensures high-quality reproduction across various musical genres (from classical to rock, jazz, world music, and more), making them versatile with a wide range of electronics.

Excellent results were achieved with the Musical Fidelity M3 Si integrated amplifier.

The quality of the drivers used and the optimized crossover design allow for extended listening sessions without auditory fatigue, despite the dynamic and lively nature of the Davis Krypton 9.
