The Cure – Pornography (Fiction Records 1982)

the_cure_-_pornography

Along my journey listening to the hosts of reissues that are around at the moment (including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and more), I got the opportunity to rediscover one of the monuments of the Post Punk/Cold Wave era with The Cure‘s album Pornography. To be honest, I’m no great expert of this major band, but I recall being stunned by their show at the Route du Rock festival in 2005. What strikes me most with this LP is its innovative and really modern approach (it was released in 1982, remember!). Amongst the classics in this album, there is one more confidential track that literally blows my mind and that I’m listening to on repeat at the moment: ‘Cold’. It just sends chills down my spine.

Electric Electric – III (Murailles Music 2016)

electric-electric-iii

After the great ‘Discipline’ that I had reviewed when it came out, the French Math Rock trio returns with their third album, which has all the ingredients that we loved on their previous LP. With their typically fine composition and interpretation work, Electric Electric deliver a creative and bold performance that is definitely on a par with their peers like Battles. Though this type of music may not seem approachable at first, once you get past the first listen – a little rough around the edges – you will be hypnotised by their music that has a lot more to offer than you would think at first. One track sums it all up and successfully closes this act of bravery: 17°00.

A Tribe Called Quest – We Got It from Here… Thank you 4 your service (Epic 2016)

A Tribe Called Quest are an iconic Hip Hop band that formed in 1985. 20 years later, they are back with a new album. What a comeback! The mighty ‘We are the people…’ with its no-nonsense flow and spot-on instrumental section covers the entire album’s quality in under 3 minutes. I’ve always liked rappers of this period, and I was thrilled to finally get my hands on this LP that had been long spoken of. A successful comeback!

The Beatles – Live at the Hollywood Bowl (Universal 2016)

I mentioned reissues earlier. There again, this live album from the Beatles gave me a closer feel of the crowd’s frenzy whenever the Fab Four hit the stage. Actually, official live recordings are quite rare and this one is of unusually good quality. And what struck me along the 17-track long album, is the endless hysterical screams from the audience. And this is, besides the band’s talent, what makes this live album so vibrant. It’s always a pleasure to listen to all their classics. Don’t miss it!
