Description

The AudioQuest Pegasus XLR incorporates numerous proprietary technologies developed by the American manufacturer. These elements reduce distortion and efficiently dissipate radio-frequency noise and electromagnetic interference.

AudioQuest Pegasus XLR: Conductors

The Pegasus XLR uses solid-core Perfect Surface Copper conductors. These conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of dynamic distortion in cables. They are made from AudioQuest’s finest copper, PSC+ (Perfect Surface Copper+), and are protected from RF noise by alternating layers of graphene (carbon/metal).

The positive conductors have almost no contact between the metal and their polypropylene (PP) insulation, which limits cable memory effects. AudioQuest uses polypropylene air-tube insulation. Since air absorbs virtually no energy and polypropylene has low loss and a benign distortion profile, this high-air-content air-tube insulation produces far less memory effect than other insulating materials.

AudioQuest Pegasus XLR: Technology

The AudioQuest Pegasus XLR is equipped with a DBS (Dielectric-Bias System) module providing a high 72V polarization. This polarization is applied to both the positive and negative conductors.

The cable also benefits from ZERO-Tech technology, which eliminates the electrostatic field between positive and negative conductors, allowing linear noise dissipation.

Silver-plated (6%) RF drain wires with controlled direction further enhance effective radio-frequency noise dissipation.

AudioQuest Pegasus XLR: Connectors

The AudioQuest Pegasus XLR is fitted with superb XLR connectors made from red copper and silver-plated.

Like AudioQuest’s finest connectors, these XLR plugs are made of copper coated with suspended (non-polished) silver. The silver is applied directly to extremely pure red copper, ensuring uncompromised signal transfer.

AudioQuest Pegasus XLR: Sound Performance

AudioQuest is regarded as one of the most honest manufacturers in this segment. As such, its cables do not attempt to compensate for poorly matched systems or artificially mask flaws.

From the very first notes, we were astonished by the quality of the soundstage. Focus, definition, and spatial imaging are simply unmatched.

Harmonic richness is clearly superior to our reference cable. There is a noticeable gain in clarity and precision across all frequency ranges. Instruments are even more intelligible than with the Black Beauty, which is already a benchmark in this area. Bass is impactful and highly articulate, reproducing every nuance even in complex passages and extreme low frequencies.

The AudioQuest Pegasus XLR is considered by its creator to be the flagship of the “Mythical Horses” range—and we fully agree.

This cable is outstanding in every respect and clearly stands apart from the competition.

Editor’s choice. A true favorite.
