The Atoll AM300 power amplifier is directly derived from the Atoll IN300 integrated amplifier. Indeed, it adopts the same power stage and power supply.
ATOLL AM300: FRONT PANEL
The Atoll AM300 power amplifier retains the classic look of the manufacturer, which can also be found on the Signature range.
In the center of the 8 mm thick brushed aluminum front panel is the manufacturer's logo, milled into the aluminum (natural or black). Additionally, there are only three small LEDs: one indicating power on (which is controlled from the back of the unit), one for XLR connection, and the last indicating if the amplifier has been bridged to Mono.
ATOLL AM300: REAR PANEL
On the back of the Atoll AM300, the speaker outputs are located on either side. They are specially machined for Atoll from high-quality copper. They allow for the connection of banana plugs and spades. Bare wire should be avoided with this range of devices.
Atoll offers unbalanced stereo inputs via RCA and balanced stereo inputs via XLR. The latter must be activated by a push button on the back of the device. Another push button allows switching from stereo to monophonic (bridge) mode.
There is also an RCA stereo output, which can be used, for example, to retrieve the signal for a subwoofer. It comes standard with a 12V Trigger input (direct activation in conjunction with a preamp).
ATOLL AM300: FEATURES
The internal architecture is truly impressive!
The Atoll AM300 is completely dual mono. It is powered by two 440 VA toroidal transformers.
Filtering is handled by 12 audio-grade electrolytic capacitors, totaling over 83,000 μF of capacity! The power stage is managed by a triple push-pull MOS-FET.
And the numbers are impressive! The power output is 150 W per channel into 8 Ohms and 280 W into 4 Ohms! In bridged mode (mono), you will need two AM300s, which will give you 500 W per channel into 8 Ohms!
It should be noted that the output stages are biased in class A/B, and the amplifier operates in class A up to 30% of its power.
Also noteworthy is that the internal wiring of the speaker outputs is done with high-end speaker cable.
ATOLL AM300: TESTING AND LISTENING
It is suitable for most high-end Hi-Fi or audio-video applications. It can be used alone or in bi-amplification, and can be paired with an integrated amplifier or an Atoll preamplifier, or even any other high-quality audio preamplifier. It can also be bridged into a mono block if necessary.
