Normandy-based manufacturer of high-end electronics gives most of its products a facelift and upgrades them to ‘EVO’.
The new IN 300 EVO fits logically between the IN200 EVO integrated amplifier and the new IN400 EVO integrated amplifier.
Atoll IN300 EVO: front panel
The Atoll IN300 EVO integrated amplifier has a fairly classic, less confusing look than its predecessor. On the other hand, its front panel is based on its predecessor's architecture.
In the centre is a window housing a low-power OLED display.
On either side is a large logic potentiometer: the one on the right controls volume (by turning) and balance (by pressing), while the one on the left controls source selection (by turning) and M/A (by pressing).

On the back, the Atoll IN300 offers five analogue inputs, one of which can accommodate an optional Atoll MM/MC P100 phono card.
There is also a balanced XLR input. This bipolar balanced stage is made entirely from discrete components.
In addition to these inputs, there are 2 pre-out outputs, a By-Pass and an IN/OUT tape.
A plate hides the possible location of an Atoll DA 100 or DA 200 digital card, the latter offering an optional PCM DAC: 32 bits - 768kHz! It is accessible via 6 digital inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical and one USB-B. Note that the USB DAC is a USB XMOS: XHRA-2HPA with a program specifically developed for Atoll.
The speaker outputs are excellent. The terminal blocks are specific and machined in copper especially for Atoll.
At each end of the chassis are new terminal blocks machined from tellurium copper specially for Atoll. They allow the connection of HP cables fitted with banana plugs or forks.

The internal architecture is impressive!
The IN300 EVO is totally dual-mono. It is powered by two 440 VA toroidal transformers.
Filtering is carried out by 12 chemical capacitors dedicated to audio, with a total capacity of 86,150 uf!
The analogue stages use shielded MKP Mundorf capacitors and the digital stage uses MKP Vishay capacitors of very high audio quality.
It's also worth noting that the internal wiring to the speaker outputs is made using top-of-the-range speaker cable from French manufacturer Absolue Creation.
Atoll IN300 EVO: installation
Getting to grips with the Atoll IN300 is a ‘physical’ experience... 16 kg in so little space is quite impressive! That says a lot about the quality of the workmanship.
Its compact dimensions make it easy to install, so there's no need for custom-made furniture. All it needs is a solid cabinet.
Its power handling means it can be used with even the most recalcitrant speakers worth 2 or 3 times its price!
Atoll IN300 EVO: testing and listening
We tested it with a monitor loudspeaker and two floorstanding loudspeakers that were very different in terms of reproduction and load.
After being switched on for 24 hours and running in for a minimum of twenty hours, the sound reproduction was clearly based on neutrality and nuance. The result is an obvious naturalness combined with exemplary speaker performance.
Some people criticise Atoll for a certain clear, analytical listening style! This is absolutely not the case with the IN300 EVO integrated amplifier. Admittedly, it lacks the roundness and presence of an Audio Research I50, but the reproduction is precise and perfectly contained.
This is not a flattering or demonstrative amplifier. It is designed for fans of neutrality and ‘fidelity’.
Its versatility is remarkable, with both analogue and digital sources.
To date, the Atoll IN300 EVO integrated amplifier is certainly one of the best, if not the best integrated amplifier in its range. It offers everything you'd expect from a ‘modern’ device in terms of connectivity and possibilities. And all this combined with remarkable musicality and reproduction!
And it's designed and built in France!

Cet intégré de marque et construction française est la preuve qu'avec une bonne philosophie et du bon sens, il est possible de s'aligner avec la concurrence étrangère . Pas encore rodé et pourtant c'est déjà magique. Très dynamique et clair, il fait chanter mes Sopra n2 et je reprends du plaisir à réécouter mes disques. Bravo Atoll.
