Goldring E4: technique 

The new Goldring E4 cartridge features a super-elliptical “naked” stylus measuring just 7.6 x 18 microns (0.3 x 0.7 mil). This is cut and polished from a single piece of diamond. This results in a lower effective mass and increased rigidity, significantly improving its ability to reproduce high-frequency detail compared to traditional “glued” elliptical styluses. It is paired with a hollow aluminum cantilever. Its lightness and rigidity allow the diamond to reproduce midrange and treble frequencies with greater accuracy, while reducing distortion.

The package also offers improved transient response and a wide frequency response with excellent neutrality.

Azimuth refers to the angle that the stylus's vertical axis forms with the record surface; it must be perfectly perpendicular to the groove. Owners of entry-level and mid-range turntables generally do not have this adjustment. Therefore, it is essential that the cartridge is accurately adjusted before being installed on the turntable's tonearm. Improperly adjusted azimuth can lead to increased crosstalk and channel imbalance.

But the Goldring E4 is reportedly designed to allow for micro-adjustments during production, ensuring that every cartridge leaves the Goldring factory without any additional azimuth adjustments.

Goldring E4 : restitution 

We immediately notice excellent dynamics and superb energy. The low end is reproduced with great poise and substance. The bass is very powerful and sustained, which is quite rare in this range of cartridges. Its nature makes it very versatile, and it is equally at home with rock, jazz, or classical music.

We also find great precision of reproduction, with a very pleasant restitution due to a particularly successful treble.

This Goldring E4 is an excellent alternative to well-known and recognized competitors such asl’Ortofon 2M Blue or theAudio Technica VM 530x EN.
