Description

The Rega Naia turntable represents the culmination of 50 years of expertise in analog research and technical development. It serves as the "democratic" production version of Roy Gandy's flagship, the NAÏAD, naturally filling the gap between the latter and the Rega Planar 10.

REGA NAIA: Chassis

For this new Rega Naia, the British manufacturer has completely abandoned conventional materials. The Naia turntable is crafted from revolutionary materials and technologies developed by Rega over the years to achieve unparalleled performance.

The Naia maximizes the "low mass" philosophy by offering a skeletal base made of graphene-infused carbon with a Tancast 8 foam core. This structure boasts absolute rigidity, reinforced by two aluminum oxide ceramic crossbars, the same material used for the platter's construction. These materials are widely used in the aerospace industry and are the ideal solution for assembling a vinyl player. The ultra-light, random structure of the foam core helps reduce vibration transmission, while the shell's rigidity ensures no microscopic base movement occurs during playback. The addition of graphene further strengthens the carbon fiber's resistance and rigidity, creating the stiffest base Rega has ever produced.

This plinth rests on three lightweight, skeletal aluminum feet with a base supported by an elastomer ring. Due to its structure and traditional shape, the cover has been advantageously replaced by a simple and effective dust cover.

REGA NAIA: Platter and Bearing

This Rega turntable features a new low-resonance ceramic platter with a highly complex profile to maximize inertia.

It sits atop a sub-platter machined from solid aluminum, differing significantly from the rest of the Rega range. It appears to be heavily inspired by the NAIAD, although it doesn't replicate the triangular shape but rather that of a six-sided open polygon. The entire system is driven by a 24V AC motor through three belts.

The central bearing is made of ZTA ceramic, an aluminum oxide reinforced with zirconium. Its abrasion resistance surpasses that of commonly used materials but its manufacturing process is complex and costly.

After being reduced to powder and dried, the piece is formed in an isostatic press, then fired at 1600°C for three days before grinding and boring. It's necessary to match the shaft's diameter with the bearing, and they are kept together to ensure a perfect fit.

They are made from the same material, reducing the risk of wear because they have identical hardness. The shaft operates with an ultra-thin layer of fully synthetic oil, further reducing wear.

The three drive belts are the latest Rega ELBT belts. Over the past three years, Rega has worked with chemists to develop a custom rubber compound. Thanks to a specific cooking process, the new drive belt offers superior consistency, especially in terms of elasticity, compared to previous models. These belts are "perfectly round" and "dimensionally very precise," ensuring perfect speed stability.

REGA NAIA: Tonearm

For the Naia turntable, Rega has developed a dedicated, uncompromising tonearm. The Rega RB Titanium is the most high-performance and precise tonearm the manufacturer has ever produced.

The entire structure of the RB Titanium is designed to have minimal mechanical joints while using the most rigid materials in all critical areas. This allows for virtually frictionless horizontal and vertical movements without measurable bearing play.

The RB Titanium uses a new single-piece titanium vertical bearing and a horizontal pivot set, also made of titanium. The tonearm tube is hand-polished aluminum to minimize its mass, and it, along with the counterweight shaft, is machined from tungsten.

REGA NAIA: Power Supply

The Reference Naia power supply offers unparalleled motor control stability and advanced anti-vibration control.

This reference power supply is designed to operate the 24V motor as quietly and precisely as possible. The motor speed and control are ensured by a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) generator based on a high-stability crystal. This device divides the precise square wave from the crystal into the exact frequency required to rotate the platter at the selected speed.

The DSP core also generates a perfect sinusoidal waveform to power the motor. Fine adjustments made at the factory to the power supply optimize each supply with each motor, eliminating unwanted vibrations and oscillations.

At the back of the unit, users have access to fine electronic speed adjustment, ensuring precision and perfect control throughout the motor's lifespan. This Rega PSU Reference also allows for electronic speed switching (33.33 and 45.1 RPM).
