AUDIO TECHNICA AT-ART 1000X : Generator

Like its predecessor, the AT-ART1000X features the Direct Power System, which places a double voice coil directly above the diamond. This system allows the signal to be transmitted to the source and reduces the negative effects normally induced by the cantilever. This technology enables the cartridge to reproduce the subtlest sonic details and offer unrivalled transient response. The coils newly developed for this new model are rectangular, rather than round as usual. This means that more of their surface is placed in the magnetic field. This technology offers a better response in strong modulations, which translates into a higher output voltage and therefore a higher level of punch and fullness in the lower end of the spectrum.

Each non-magnetic core coil is made from 20 μm diameter PCOCC (Pure Copper Ohno Continuous Casting) wire. It is wound by hand over eight turns to create a rectangle measuring 1.1 mm × 0.6 mm. The coils are contained in a specific ultra-thin film of 25 μm and placed in a ‘tiny’ 0.5 mm space in a powerful magnetic circuit. Although a non-magnetic core is used, this design allows each coil to generate an output voltage of 0.22 mV at an impedance of 3.5 ohms.

AUDIO TECHNICA AT-ART 1000X: Diamond and Cantilever

The AT-ART1000X retains the superb Special Line Contact diamond, exclusive to Audio-Technica's top-of-the-range models. This diamond is combined with a solid boron cantilever similar to the previous model, with a diameter of 0.26 mm. This assembly offers an exceptional high-frequency response with minimal abrasion to considerably reduce distortion and wear on the disc, and of course an inaudible level of surface noise.

AUDIO TECHNICA AT-ART 1000X: Body and technologies

The primary structure on which the components of the AT-ART1000X rest is made of titanium. This rigid, inert structure is fundamental to the regularity of playback. It is damped by two other ‘sub-structures’, one made of polymer and the other of aluminium, to reduce resonance. A special coating protects the entire magnetic circuit from corrosion to ensure consistent performance throughout the cartridge's life.

The body of the AT-ART 1000 x features brass threaded inserts that make it easy to mount the cartridge on the headshell. Screws are supplied to allow mounting on most headshells or integrated into the tone arm.

Each cartridge is individually measured and tested, as shown in the ‘Backing Force Information’ document included in the Audio Technica AT-ART 1000 x box.

Important note: The AT-ART1000X diamond can only be replaced in Audio-Technica's Japanese factory. The brand offers a trade-in programme at the end of the cartridge's life.
