The body of the Ortofon SPU Synergy GM cartridge is made using wood. The model has a revised generator device that gives a maximum output level of 500 µV, limiting the need for the use of a high gain transformer or a preamp system.

Although it uses a highly polished Nude Elliptical stylus, the weight of the stylus tip was significantly reduced, authorising a reduction in vertical tracking force and an improved tracking capacity.
