Rotel DX-5: Front Panel

The front panel features a color TFT graphic display that allows for control of inputs and device status. It also provides access to the complete configuration menu.

A superb aluminum remote control grants access to sources and facilitates navigation.

On the left, you will find the power button and the source selector. On the right, the rotary volume knob.

Rotel DX-5: Connections

Connections On the rear of the device, there are Toslink optical, SPDIF coaxial, USB, and HDMI ARC digital inputs. In addition, it features Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD compatibility.

The Rotel DX-5 offers analog RCA inputs and outputs (including a Subwoofer output).

Power is supplied via an IEC-C13 inlet, allowing for the use of a high-quality power cable.

Rotel DX-5: Technology

The Rotel DX-5 is equipped with the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC. Downstream of this converter, analog output filters are implemented using discrete components custom-designed by Rotel for optimal musicality. It processes signals up to 32-bit/384 kHz via the PC-USB input and 24-bit/192 kHz via coaxial and optical inputs.

Headphones can be connected via a 6.35mm jack on the front panel.

The fully balanced circuit topology is powered by an in-house manufactured Rotel toroidal transformer. It is paired with filtering capacitors and a very low-noise power supply.

Rotel DX-5: Performance

The Rotel DX-5 delivers 33 watts per channel in Class AB into 4 ohms (25 watts into 8 ohms), making it compatible with the majority of speakers having a sensitivity of 89dB or higher.

The ESS ES9039Q2M DAC offers a precise and highly transparent reproduction.

The sound quality is surprising. It offers a soundstage that is both very wide and precise.

The speakers fill the entire room with surprising ease. The Rotel DX-5 renders music with remarkable fluidity and an evident sense of ease, providing a highly immersive experience. The DX-5 offers neutral and natural timbres, allowing the speakers to fully express themselves.

The frequency response is well-balanced; the bass is very deep, textured, and nuanced. The mids are crystal clear, and the highs are rich in detail without ever being forward.
