Sonus Faber Lumina Amator V tower speakers

Following the success of its Lumina range, the Italian manufacturer Sonus Faber has reworked the two flagship models of this series.

The Sonus Faber Lumina II Amator and Lumina V Amator receive a crossover modification and a more premium finish, in the pure tradition of Sonus Faber.

SONUS FABER LUMINA V AMATOR: CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN

Right out of the box, the Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator floor-standing speakers showcase artisanal craftsmanship with refined materials, in the truest sense of the word. The design is intentionally minimalist, highlighting the quality of the materials used.

The new front panel is machined from genuine multi-ply wood, surface veneered with three new glossy finishes: Red, Wenge, and Walnut. All finishes feature 45° wood veneer.

The speakers can be concealed behind a rigid black jersey fabric grille, with magnetic attachments.

The cabinet is very rigid, and its mass (> 22 kg) ensures quality.

These floor-standing speakers are, of course, handmade in Sonus Faber's factory in Arcugnano, Italy.

SONUS FABER LUMINA V AMATOR: DRIVERS

The high frequencies are handled by the excellent 29 mm DKM fabric dome tweeter. To minimize distortion and high-frequency disturbances, this tweeter is isolated from the speaker cabinet by a viscoelastic joint. It is paired in the midrange with a 150 mm cellulose fiber driver, identical to the one used in the Sonetto range. The two 16.5 mm woofers are specific to the Lumina range and have been specially designed for this Hi-Fi speaker. They have a large and powerful motor that allows the drivers to go very low in frequency without dragging (38Hz).

There is a bass-reflex configuration with a port opening under the floor-standing speaker. This design makes the speaker's placement less critical concerning rear and side walls. Although, it might be slightly more critical with respect to the floor, which is a deliberate choice by the manufacturer.

SONUS FABER LUMINA V AMATOR: CROSSOVER

The crossover has been completely revised and modified, making it specific to this speaker.

Modifications were made to significantly improve the performance and sensitivity of the speaker.

The crossover frequency in the upper midrange has been optimized, changing from 2600Hz to 2850Hz.

SONUS FABER LUMINA V AMATOR: INSTALLATION

The Lumina V Amator is already a fairly large speaker but remains relatively easy to place. It requires a listening room with an area larger than 30 m².

The connection is made via a high-quality dual terminal that accepts banana plugs, spades, or bare wire.

SONUS FABER LUMINA V AMATOR: TEST AND LISTENING

We paired these Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator floor-standing speakers with a good 100-watt amplifier, as they need current to express themselves and maintain deep, dynamic, and controlled bass.

The sound reproduction is very spacious and open. The Lumina V Amator easily fills the room without needing to turn up the volume much. At high volumes, they deliver a robust and very controlled sound. There is a noticeable improvement in transparency and clarity compared to the Lumina V model. The midrange appears more natural and detailed while remaining realistic.

When properly powered, the Sonus Faber Lumina V Amator floor-standing speakers offer excellent rhythmic precision, combined with a particularly engaging "swing."

As always with Sonus Faber, the main asset is the quality of the timbre and a very successful balance that always favors musicality.
