To date, the Thorens TD 550 vinyl turntable is Thorens' top product. It is the manufacturer's new flagship product, resulting from a century of efforts in research and technology for the analogue playback of this amazing turntable.

Typically, the TD 550 has a suspended chassis that can be adjusted with three pins and made in a single-piece carbon compound! This material boasts amazing mechanical - and hence acoustic - properties (stiff, lightweight, etc.). The platter (6.2Kg), bearing and housing design uses the lowest tolerances possible. Motor drive is by a silent-running synchronous DC unit with electronic speed control, with playback speed changeover (33/45 rpm). The speed of rotation can be fine-tuned using two independent controls on the back. It has two connector sets: a pair of standard RCA and a pair of XLR (symmetrical output). Note that phono preamps fitted with this type of connectors are quite rare (Audio Research phono 2).
