Description

AudioQuest power cables have received numerous awards from the specialized press for several years and are highly appreciated by high-fidelity enthusiasts. Their performance and the improvement achieved compared to original power cords have contributed to their success. The AudioQuest Storm Tornado is part of the new generation of power cables in the Storm series from the American manufacturer. It is the second in the range and is equipped with active DBS "Dielectric-Bias System" polarization.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado: specifications This new power cable uses Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) and Perfect-Surface Copper Plus (PSC+) conductors. While many power cables feature low resistance to meet high current demand, a cable's characteristic impedance is also crucial for optimal performance. Unlike most cables that shrink or compress a transient, AudioQuest power cables combine low DC resistance and ZERO characteristic impedance. This allows for the delivery of uncompressed high-current transients.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado: shielding Added to this is the manufacturer's proprietary DBS polarization system. A housing on the cable polarizes the shield with a current of 72v! All shields are also equipped with a dielectric whose electrical properties affect signal integrity. AudioQuest's patented DBS polarization shielding creates a powerful and stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes the insulation. This minimizes noise and prevents RF from infiltrating the electronics. The DBS batteries are rated for a lifespan of approximately 10 years. A test button on the housing allows you to check the battery status.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado: current The Storm Tornado cable offers a current capacity of 16A, which makes it ideal for power-hungry devices. Power amplifiers present a real challenge for any power source, as transient current requirements (although short-lived) can be several times higher than average (RMS) current consumption. Power amplifiers are also unique compared to all other components in that current consumption is dynamic, not constant, and changes with volume and audio signal content. Many high-end power cords shrink or compress the audio transient because their characteristic impedance restricts transient current.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado: testing and listening The AudioQuest Storm Tornado effectively reduces mains noise present in the audio/video system as well as subjective distortion. The reproduction gains in dynamics and scale. The bass quality is remarkable in articulation and clarity. The bottom of the spectrum is also characterized by an uncommon fullness. The Storm Tornado also offers excellent definition with nuance and subtlety. We also note a clear improvement in soundstaging and a gain in scale.

With a current capacity of 16 A, the AudioQuest Storm Tornado power cable can support transient current peaks several times its continuous (average) RMS value. This makes the AudioQuest Storm Tornado perfectly suited for high-end power units, large integrated amplifiers, subwoofers, power strips or other power conditioners. Highly recommended +++
