The Thorens PHC 150 is equipped with PTFE-insulated DIN and XLR connectors. PTFE (Poly Tetra Fluoro Ethylene), better known as Teflon, is an excellent electrical insulator with very low dielectric losses.

The DIN, XLR, and ground fork are 24-carat gold-plated. Gold plating provides excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance, ensuring reliable and long-lasting contact. The socket sleeves are lightweight and made of 6061 aluminum. Aluminum alloy is commonly used for its lightness, strength, and good machinability.

PhonoConnect PHC 150 DIN-XLR: Conductors

The conductors are made of very fine strands of pure, oxygen-free copper (OCC), ensuring precise signal transmission and balanced sound. This cable offers excellent conductivity and an extremely low capacitance of less than 90 pF, which ensures a linear frequency response even with low-level MCs.

The architecture uses two separate twisted pairs. They are insulated with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) dielectric. To ensure effective shielding, Thorens chose a screen made of Mylar and copper. Mylar is a polyester film commonly used as an insulator and backing for copper shielding.

The outer sheath is made of high-compression PVC that complies with RoHS/REACH standards. This is complemented by an anti-static outer coating.

Thorens puts all of its cables through a 48-hour burn-in process. Burn-in involves running a device or cable for a certain period of time to stabilize its components and optimize its audio performance.
