The 2000 series is Goldring's latest product and was marketed in 2009. It is easily recognisable with its distinctive round design.
It is available in 5 models with various stylus and generator qualities (magnets, coils, etc.). The entry-level model of this range is the 2100.
Goldring 2100: features
Technically, the range builds on the 30-year expertise and technology developed by Goldring for the 1000 series, with a few innovations, and above all, the will to achieve high performance levels on a tight budget.
The elliptical stylus is of excellent quality and the generator is designed with very powerful Cobalt/Samarium magnets.
It is easily secured to the headshell as the body has threaded inserts that are compatible with standard pitch screws.
Goldring 2100: compatibility
Its weight, tracking force and high compliance (20) make it compatible with most good quality tonearms.
Its high output level above 6 mV and impedance of 47 kOhms make it readily compatible with a good quality phono preamplifier that is not necessarily exorbitant.
Goldring 2100: packaging
The packaging and presentation are amazingly elegant for a cartridge in this range.
OK, a box does not play music, but it's always nice to have a product that looks the part!
Goldring 2100: listening and review
We enjoyed pairing it with LINN and REGA tonearms, with which it seems to agree.
Like with most cartridges, the first time we played it was a bit disappointing, because it lacked in terms of range and the high mids were a bit too present.
BUT after a few hours of breaking in, the sound becomes full-bodied and well articulated, and the treble is precise without being harsh. The bass is firm and very authentic, it boosts electronic music nicely.
Naturally, the Goldring 2100 also works with Jazz and big Classical orchestras.
The Goldring 2100 MM cartridge is an excellent multipurpose, vivid, punchy and very subtle MM cartridge… We recommend it! Franck
