Description

This new 6 PERSPEX Acryl SB turntable incorporates all the features of its predecessor… with the exception of its motor.

PRO-JECT 6 PERSPEX SB: MOTOR AND SPEED CHANGE

Indeed, after receiving a DC card, the motor of the 6 Perspex SB turntable is equipped with a speed generator called "Speed Box" by the manufacturer, hence the SB designation!

In reality, this motor is identical to the one used in the Pro-Ject RPM9 Carbon turntable. Only the aluminum base differs for height reasons.

It is powered by a circuit that reforms an alternating current (50 Hz) via a direct current power supply.

Two oscillators eliminate the various voltage and frequency variations of the mains power and offer 2 speeds. Rotational variations are significantly reduced in this way.

It is equipped with a pulley precisely machined from aluminum.

On the side, a small push button allows the selection of 33 RPM and 45 RPM speeds electronically.

The entire motor block is isolated from the plinth by a thick sorbothane base, preventing its vibrations from being transmitted to the platter, and therefore to the Hi-Fi cartridge.

PRO-JECT 6 PERSPEX SB: TONEARM AND PHONO CARTRIDGE

Of course, it includes the excellent and now famous Pro-Ject 9CC Evolution tonearm. This is equipped with a 9-inch (230mm) carbon tube. Its connectivity is of the Din type and Pro-Ject provides a Connect It E Din 5P CC phono cable as standard.

This tonearm allows pairing with the majority of available MM and MC cartridges. The MC Ortofon Quintet Blue cartridge comes as standard with this tonearm.

It comes with 4 counterweights allowing the installation of all cartridges with a mass between 5 and 14g. It is simply necessary to avoid older cartridges with very low compliance.

PRO-JECT 6 PERSPEX SB: DRIVE AND PLATTER

The platter is driven naturally by its periphery via a silicone belt.

This 2 kg platter is made of a composite material sandwich covered with 4mm of compressed vinyl. Attached to it is a precisely machined inverted stainless steel spindle that fits into a well with a ceramic ball at its base.

The sub-platter is machined from a Corian plate, which seems entirely new to me. Even more surprising, it does not rest on springs like its predecessors but on very powerful repelling magnets that keep it levitating! This ingenious and surprising system has the advantage of generating no noise or friction.

The transparent acrylic base was chosen for its extreme rigidity and acoustic neutrality.

PRO-JECT 6 PERSPEX SB: TEST AND LISTENING

We listened to this Pro-Ject 6 Perspex SB in various configurations, and we can affirm that it made a great impression on us.

The dynamics are excellent across the entire frequency range.

Its great bass quality provides exceptional rhythmic follow-through on bass lines, double bass, and electronic pads.

The midrange remains both precise and smooth. It captures the openness and breathing of some "vintage" suspended turntables but without their coloration.

It has the articulation and melodic nature of the Anglo-Saxon school! We also appreciated the lively and present aspect of the playback. It seems less "physical" than the Austrian manufacturer's RPM models, but its breadth is an advantage.

It remains precise and detailed regardless of the musical style being listened to.

This latest version of the Pro-Ject 6 Perspex is a complete success! Its build quality, technology, versatility, musicality, and appearance make it a reference in this price range. It is a "best seller" for Pro-Ject, and there is no doubt it will remain so with this latest evolution.

Highly recommended!
