Ortofon MC Vertex: Body

The body has a particularly elegant shape. Its complex design stands apart from the conventional rectangular forms of the Quintet series. The cartridge body and its internal structure are manufactured in titanium using Ortofon's Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology. This high-end manufacturing method allows structural control that is impossible to achieve with conventional techniques.

The material density, wall thickness and internal geometry are precisely defined throughout the structure, making it possible to create internal architectures within the titanium body.

A specific cavity has been created to improve internal damping and reduce unwanted resonances.

The shell benefits from a DLC surface treatment, providing an excellent black finish while offering increased durability.

The logos are laser-engraved directly onto the titanium surface, reflecting the precision of the manufacturing process.

The result is a mechanically inert structure that effectively suppresses unwanted vibrations, allowing the musical signal to express itself with optimal clarity, purity and precision.

Ortofon MC Vertex: Generator

The MC Vertex features an advanced generator system built around a non-magnetic armature, precision-wound coils and a highly optimised magnetic configuration. The coils are precision-wound using high-purity silver wire and are carefully integrated into the optimised magnetic configuration to enable precise conversion of mechanical motion into an electrical signal. The non-magnetic armature provides a stable mechanical structure for the coils without introducing any magnetic material into the moving system. This dual-behaviour damping structure allows precise control of resonance characteristics across the entire frequency spectrum, while preserving dynamic responsiveness.

The in-house development and production of rubber compounds by Ortofon ensures consistent material quality and allows fine-tuning of damping performance. This prevents the armature itself from interacting with the magnetic field, ensuring controlled and consistent generator performance. By avoiding the presence of magnetic materials in the armature, the coil assembly can operate within the magnetic system without any unwanted magnetic influence from the armature itself.

Ortofon MC Vertex: Stylus

At the heart of the Ortofon MC Vertex lies a completely new stylus design developed by Ortofon. It features a very high-end linear contact geometry. This new stylus is marketed under the name "Vertex" diamond, and becomes the new reference in Ortofon's stylus technology.

The stylus profile has been developed with a focus on interaction with the walls of the vinyl groove at a microscopic level, where contact precision and mechanical stability are essential. This profile has been optimised to precisely conform to the effective contact surface, the scanning radius and the pressure distribution. This stylus thus ensures constant contact across a wide range of modulations, even under the most demanding dynamic conditions.

The Vertex diamond features an optimised scanning radius of 4 µm combined with an extended contact radius of 110 µm. While the scanning radius ranks among the finest of high-end styli, the contact radius offers an exceptionally wide profile, allowing a significantly increased contact surface along the groove walls.

The Vertex diamond is mounted on a solid diamond cantilever, laser-polished to achieve a uniform surface finish, minimising irregularities that could introduce mechanical defects.

This assembly forms an extremely rigid and lightweight structure that ensures efficient energy transfer from the stylus to the generator.

The diamond-cantilever assembly is manufactured by laser cutting with extremely tight tolerances. A precise micro-bore is formed in the cantilever, allowing the diamond to be mounted with a highly controlled mechanical fit. This ensures precise alignment while creating a rigid and stable interface for optimal energy transfer.
