Description

La Roksan Radius 7 turntable is the latest version of the long line of the Radius series. The dynamic London brand is indeed evolving its bestseller once again by making subtle modifications that improve its performance.

Roksan Radius 7: chassis

La Radius 7It features the double acrylic chassis with a "glass" appearance that made it famous. It rests on 3 specific feet that increase the decoupling of the whole and minimize vibrational effects.

The engine rests on a 20 mm baseboard and the arm on another, isolated from each other by silent blocks.

As always with Roksan, The finish is remarkable, completely flawless, and very impressive.

Roksan Radius 7: motor and drive

The 24-pole synchronous motor has also been optimized in terms of vibrations and has been paired with a 20ppm regulator/oscillator. This allows for a noticeable reduction in wow and "rumble" effects.

This also allows for an electronic speed change 33/45t. It drives the opaque acrylic platter by its perimeter via a silicone belt.

Roksan Radius 7: mechanics

The mechanical parts (shaft and well) are particularly well crafted.

The rolling ball at the bottom of the shaft is called "case hardened," meaning it has undergone a thermochemical treatment that involves introducing carbon into the steel to allow it to be quenched. After this process, the steel becomes extremely hard and wear-resistant.

Roksan Radius 7: NIMA tonearm

We find the Unipivot arm NIMA from Roksan which has undergone some modifications but they are not major. The aluminum tube has been made heavier and offers an effective mass of 15.3g.

This tonearm is also more rigid and the internal wiring features new very high-quality conductors made of silver-plated OFC copper and PTFE insulated.

The counterweight is decoupled and designed for an off-center mounting, allowing easy azimuth correction. It is possible to adjust VTA for optimal alignment with (almost) all the phono cells.

Le phono cableIs connected via a 5-pin DIN type SME/Ortofon. It can therefore be upgraded in the future.

Roksan Radius 7: test and listening

During our tests, we paired this vinyl turntable with three different phono cartridges, MM and MC: one Ortofon 2M Black, a Ortofon Quintet Black SAnd oneHana SL.

However, this choice is not really limiting because the tonearm is quite versatile due to its technical characteristics. We nevertheless recommend a cartridge with a mass between 5 and 12g, a tracking force of maximum 3g, and a compliance between 9 and 18 mm/N. We kept the original cable, but we obtained excellent results with slightly higher-end models.

The initial measurements highlight an abundance of detail and surprising dynamics. The reproduction is precise, articulated, and offers excellent melodic tracking. The Roksan Radius 7Remains more neutral than the majority of competing Anglo-Saxon turntables, while favoring musicality over strictness.

The balance is very well achieved and greatly contributes to the realism of the playback. The dynamics across the entire spectrum encourage "foot tapping" and swinging.

With a good low-level MC phono cartridge, this turntableOffers perfectly identifiable and precise sound staging, both in depth and width. It excels in classical music but is not far behind in Rock or Jazz !

This Roksan Radius 7 turntable, in its new version, is still an excellent and magnificent turntable deck and a reference for musicality in this price range.
