After the well-deserved success of its Toy Tower range, Sonus Faber has now replaced this series with Chameleon. As we have come to expect from the Italian manufacturer, this new range is limited to just a few products. It includes one 2-way monitor speakers, the Chameleon B, and one tower speaker, the Chameleon T. And for home cinema enthusiasts, there is also some middle ground in the form of the Chameleon C.
The cabinet, drivers, filter, and entire design have been completely reworked.
The Chameleon T (for Tower) is a striking tower speaker. Its imposing size and weight certainly don't make it the most compact speaker on the market, but it needs all that space to house its 4 drivers.
The entire speaker (with the exception of the sides) is covered in striking black tanned leather. It’s worth a mention that all Chameleon T speakers have been designed and manufactured entirely by hand in Italy by Sonus Faber itself. You’d be hard-pressed to find any other European-made speakers for this price!
The quality of both the assembly and finish blow the competition in this price range out of the water. They are some well-built competitors out there, mostly coming out of Shenzhen, but they're nowhere near as high quality as the Chameleons! (There, we said it!)
The truly original feature of this speaker is that it the colour can be customised to complement the decor of your house! Sonus Faber has a selection of side panels available in several different colours.
The Chameleon T speakers are delivered in the colour of your choice with 4 flanks, and over time you can collect any other side panels of your choosing. These side panels are simple to assemble, locking easily into place in your Hi-Fi speaker.
They have been perfectly damped and are completely acoustically neutral. The production quality of these speakers is beyond reproach.
These drivers use an original Sonus Faber design and are exclusive to the Italian brand.
The excellent 28mm fabric dome tweeter takes care of the high frequencies and, unusually, doesn't used ferrofluid to cool the speakers, while the middle register is covered by the 150mm midrange.
Its membrane and motor have been optimised to ensure maximum transient response and linearity. It uses a closed-box system.
The bass is taken care of by two 180mm drivers which use a bass reflex system, with a wide front-firing port located underneath the bass drivers.
On the back of the Hi-Fi speaker is an extremely well-made terminal that can be used for bi-wiring or bi-amplification, and accepts banana and fork plugs as well as stripped cables.
The Chameleon T speakers offer remarkable musicality and a striking finish. They work seamlessly in medium-sized rooms, but are also fearless in larger spaces when used with similarly high quality Hi-Fi equipment.
As is often the case with Sonus Faber, the response curve is flat and the directivity is a little lacking. The baffles are sloped backwards, which makes them less directional than most speakers of their size.
The registers blend perfectly, without any emphasis on or lack of any one in particular.
The bass is impressively full-bodied and well-articulated. Their dynamic range and timbre mean they can handle a wide range of different genres. The quality of the tweeters is particularly notable, delivering a precise and present treble without any excessive harshness.
But it’s the Chameleon T tower speaker’s midrange that really shines. Its presence and softness make it one of the most realistic sounding speakers available in this range.
It’s a solid investment for music lovers - you won't regret it! Yet another success for the renowned Italian manufacturer! We are particularly big fans of the Sonus Faber Chameleon T tower speakers!
