The Micromega CD-10 is the French brand’s standard entry-level CD player. But it offers audio performances that make many a more expensive CD player pale in comparison. Its main strengths are its transparency and dynamic range. It reproduces each and every detail of your favourite music flawlessly, with an undeniable sense of rhythm.
The design of the Micromega CD-10 CD player is very understated. The CD tray is on the left-hand side of the front panel, and the display and control buttons are on the right.
Its 100% metal body provides a stable and rigid housing for the mechanism (Sony or Sanyo, depending on the series). This body also protects the electrical circuits from external EMI and RFI inteference. The front panel is cut out of the same aluminium block as the housing and is 5mm thick. The top cover is also made of aluminium.
The Micromega CD-10 CD player’s stereo RCA analogue output means it can be connected to an integrated amplifier (e.g. the Micromega IA-60 integrated amplifier) or preamplifier (e.g. The Micromega PA20 preamp). It also has a digital coaxial S/PDIF output for connecting to a digital-to-analogue converter.
The power is supplied by an R-Core transformer. This type of transformer has a very small bandwidth, which is ideal for devices that only require a low current, such as the Micromega CD-10 CD player The Micromega CD-10 also has a linear power supply made up of several separate sections, which has the effect of reducing the unwanted effects of crosstalk (particularly between the digital and analogue sections). This CD player uses an Analog Device AD1853 digital-to-analogue converter. When signal enters this converter, it is oversampled 8 times in a digital filter.
Each component has been carefully selected for both its technical and sound reproduction qualities. It’s not often that you come across such a high quality CD player for under €500. The first thing you notice about this CD player is its transparency. The instruments sing out with precision and excellent tonal balance. The Micromega CD-10 CD player is one of the greats! There aren’t many French brands out there producing high quality Hi-Fi products, but Micromega is definitely one of them! They’ve done themselves proud. Franck
