Description

The new Musical Fidelity DAC M6x digital-to-analog converter features the ESS 32-bit HyperStream II DAC architecture, which was developed for the manufacturer's previous DAC 6 model. Musical Fidelity has continued to enhance the firmware and introduced several other improvements, including enhancements to DSD, digital filters, ROON connectivity, and MQA management.

Another significant update is that the DAC M6x is now manufactured in the European Union!

MUSICAL FIDELITY M6X DAC: FRONT PANEL

The front panel is made of natural or black anodized aluminum, specific to the manufacturer's 6 Series, offering excellent quality and a premium appearance.

The front panel provides comprehensive information:

- Device status (on, standby, or mute).
- Digital signal sampling frequency from 44.1 to 768 kHz!
- Selection of six digital filters.
- DSD format from 64 to 512.
- Input selection: optical, coaxial, AES/EBU, and USB.
- Selection of fixed or variable outputs when using the M6x DAC as a preamplifier.
- Additionally, there is a 6.35mm stereo headphone output and a volume potentiometer.

MUSICAL FIDELITY M6X DAC: CONNECTIVITY

The Musical Fidelity M6x DAC offers nearly all the connectivity options expected from a high-end converter.

Inputs include: coaxial SPDIF, two Toslink opticals, asynchronous USB B, and XLR AES/EBU 110 Ohms.

Analog outputs include RCA and balanced XLR. These outputs can be configured as fixed or variable.

It also features a standard IEC power socket.

MUSICAL FIDELITY M6X DAC: TECHNOLOGY

Technically, the Musical Fidelity M6x DAC utilizes the superb Sabre ES9038Q2M converter. Unique to this model, Musical Fidelity employs two Sabre ES chips in a dual differential mode to ensure complete separation between the digital and analog sections.

The DAC incorporates separate power supplies and regulations (5 in total), along with a specially selected toroidal transformer to minimize electromagnetic interference, encapsulated to prevent radiation emission.

The M6x DAC includes a high-quality headphone amplifier capable of driving high-performance headphones, making it suitable for a Hi-Fi system when paired with a network player or computer.

Analog output amplifiers operate in Class A and are built with discrete components. Signal processing is achieved through a fully balanced analog circuit.

The M6x DAC delivers ultra-low distortion, wide bandwidth, and minimal noise. Its technical performance rivals converters priced significantly higher.

Specifications include Jitter below 12pps, signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 120dB, stereo separation surpassing 130dB at 1kHz, linear frequency response from 10Hz to 20kHz, and distortion below 0.0005%.

MUSICAL FIDELITY M6X DAC: PERFORMANCE

When paired with a network player using a coaxial cable and Qobuz HD, the M6x DAC impresses with its neutrality and transparency. It enhances music with depth and realism without exaggeration, achieving a balanced soundstage and precise instrument placement.

The DAC revitalizes digital music with warmth, character, and presence, making the electronics disappear and allowing the focus to solely remain on the music.

The Musical Fidelity M6x DAC represents a blend of its British heritage and new Austrian DNA, resulting in a standout product in the sub-3500 euros range, alongside the Atoll DAC 300.
