The QUAD 3CDT is housed in a sleek and compact chassis. It carries all the design and DNA of the manufacturer's "Vintage" products. You either love it or hate it, but it echoes the timeless aesthetic of the QUAD 3 amplifier. It features the gunmetal grey faceplate paired with a classic orange backlit display typical of the brand. On the left, functions are grouped on a circular control knob unique to this device. Only the tray open and power functions are accessible via two separate buttons. In the center, the loading tray is slim and perfectly integrated into the front panel. On the rear, the connectivity is straightforward for a CD drive, offering two digital outputs: one coaxial and one optical. Additionally, there is a mini-jack trigger output and an IEC C13 power socket.

QUAD 3CDT: Mechanism

Unlike conventional CD players, the QUAD 3CDT is designed exclusively as a transport. By its very design, a CD transport embodies the QUAD philosophy: the most faithful reproduction possible... At the heart of the QUAD 3CDT lies a high-precision CD mechanism and a specially designed CD servo-control system to ensure exceptional reading accuracy and stability. Every detail of the laser assembly and servo system has been optimized to minimize read errors. Jitter and distortion have also been limited to preserve the integrity of the original CD information. The servo and control architecture is designed with a robust dual-core processing system, including a high-performance 32-bit RISC processor and a dedicated microcontroller. This setup ensures high precision. The QUAD 3CDT is designed for compatibility with most available compact discs. Besides standard CDs, it supports CD-R, CD-RW, and data CDs, as well as FLAC, WAV, WMA, MP3, and APE formats.

QUAD 3CDT: Technology

The QUAD 3CDT eliminates superfluous circuitry to achieve unmatched precision, guaranteeing absolute reproduction accuracy. Indeed, the sole function of this player is to transmit the most stable signal possible, with minimal interference or undesirable processing. This unique design ensures a high-fidelity connection to the DAC it is connected to. QUAD engineers have redesigned the internal power supply architecture to isolate critical digital parts, separating the motor and laser servo circuits from the decoding stage that retrieves the digital audio signal. By eliminating interference at the source, the decoder receives a cleaner and more stable data stream before synchronization. A Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) provides the clock signal for the entire servo/decoder section. Powered by its own independent low-noise supply and dedicated grounding system, it provides an extremely reliable timing reference. This ensures a stable, jitter-free SPDIF output. Additionally, three independent low-noise voltage regulator circuits dedicated to the CD servo ensure clean and stable operation. The TCXO clock circuit is also powered by an ultra-low-noise linear regulator, minimizing power-induced jitter and improving overall sonic purity.
