LOIA arrives at maPlatine.com: French made HiFi furniture

The vinyl revival has transformed our interiors. Gone are the days of hidden speakers and HiFi systems concealed in TV cabinets: today, we proudly display our audio equipment and make it a focal point. It is precisely this trend that inspired the creation of LOIA, a young French brand dedicated to HiFi furniture.

We had the pleasure of meeting Vincent Abraham, co-founder of LOIA, who kindly granted us an interview. This was an opportunity to understand the genesis of this ambitious project: offering technical, aesthetically pleasing furniture, locally manufactured, at accessible prices.

Meeting with Vincent Abraham, co-founder of LOIA

Vincent Abraham is co-founder of LOIA and also heads Retrofutur, a shop specialising in accessible HiFi. He manages the commercial and financial side of the LOIA venture, while his partners bring their complementary expertise: Timothée, founder of Boîte Concept, has been designing speakers intended as furniture for about ten years, and Marie, designer and project manager, has supervised product creation and assembly from the beginning.

“It’s a company we created some time ago, but it’s really been alive for two years. We truly started the project in 2023,” Vincent Abraham tells us.

LOIA: the genesis of a made in France project

The idea for LOIA was born from an observation shared by the three partners: the vinyl revival has profoundly changed our relationship with HiFi. Vincent Abraham explains this evolution:

“We sensed there was real demand for furniture to showcase turntables. The vinyl revival, from 2010 onwards, meant we embraced HiFi again. Basically, we stopped hiding speakers, which was the big trend of the 2000s. It’s a real trend that started for me with vinyl, where we reclaimed an object.”

This observation sparked an ambition: to create furniture that showcases HiFi equipment while meeting technical requirements.

“It was about asking ourselves: could we have furniture that looks good in your home, that’s also technical, to house your HiFi equipment in the best conditions?”

From the outset, the LOIA team chose French manufacturing. A commitment that wasn’t straightforward, as Vincent Abraham points out:

“We also wanted to have a local footprint, meaning we didn’t want to manufacture on the other side of the world when we had local resources. It’s not easy today, because we didn’t want to sell at exorbitant prices either. So finding and sourcing the right local suppliers was all the work.”

  • 2023: Project launch and first prototypes
  • May 2024: First commercial launch, direct sales
  • Autumn 2024: New models and process industrialisation
  • December 2025: Arrival at maPlatine.com

The LOIA philosophy: technical, aesthetic and accessible

LOIA‘s ambition can be summed up in one equation: offering HiFi furniture made in France, technically excellent and aesthetically minimalist, without reaching exorbitant prices. Vincent Abraham summarises this philosophy:

“We wanted to make furniture that was aesthetically pleasing to our taste, minimalist but very well finished. We know very well that Made in France often has a reputation for being expensive, but that’s normal. It needs to remain reasonable for customers. We stand firm in saying we’re at the right price for the quality, the manufacturing location and what we offer.”

  • Technical: Thermolacquered steel structures with folds and welds absorbing parasitic vibrations, open spaces for heat dissipation
  • Made in France: Steel manufactured in France, wood sourced from the Basque Country, artisanal assembly in South-West France
  • Minimalist Design: Black thermolacquered steel combined with solid walnut panels, clean lines

French manufacturing: from steel to wood

LOIA has structured its production around two main materials: thermolacquered steel and solid walnut. Vincent Abraham details this organisation:

“We have two main materials for our products: steel and wood. The steel is made in France, with French partners who make the structures for us. Charente-Vendée has always had a good steel industry base, with suppliers we’ve known historically through Boîte Concept.”

For the wood, the team has forged links with the Basque Country:

“With wood, we work a lot with the Spanish Basque Country and the French Basque Country, given our location in the South-West. They work all the wooden pieces, and we come and assemble the wooden pieces onto the steel. We go even further: we have the wooden panels, we cut them and mount them on our furniture.”

The choice of steel is not random. It’s a material particularly suited to HiFi requirements, as Vincent Abraham explains:

“Steel is a very dense material that allows for very rigid structures. So indeed, for sound, it’s ideal. And it also pairs well with wood. We found this solution that allows us to do French manufacturing and have things that technically work well.”

This density translates into substantial weights: La Console Vinyles Acier weighs 34 kg, Le Meuble Digger reaches 48 kg. This mass guarantees perfect stability for your turntable and electronics.

All products are assembled in the LOIA workshop in South-West France. Vincent Abraham emphasises this artisanal dimension:

“All the brainwork is done here. All the prototyping is done here. The steel, that’s really a big industrial process, we could never do that here. But we come and assemble the wooden panels, we finalise everything, package and assemble here.”

Beyond the ethical commitment, local manufacturing offers concrete advantages. Vincent Abraham testifies:

“I think we also forget the fact of always having very easy exchanges with suppliers, instant, more direct. We can go there, we can see. We can also work on runs that can be a bit smaller. There are benefits to local manufacturing because we can exchange things and it can go quickly on productions.”

  • Responsiveness: Instant exchanges with suppliers, rapid adjustments
  • Bespoke possible: 6 to 8 week lead time for a custom piece
  • Controlled quality: Ability to visit workshops and follow production
  • Small runs: Around 30 pieces per model, ensuring attention to detail

The LOIA range: from accessories to complete furniture

Compact and versatile, this lacquered steel stand can display up to 3 records. Positioned on furniture or wall-mounted using the two slots at the back, it showcases your favourite records or those currently playing. Vincent Abraham tells us how some customers have made it their own:

“We even have people who’ve made patchworks with nine stands like this. It allows you to have your nine records displayed stylishly. It was quite a nice idea!”

  • Capacity: up to 3 records
  • Wall mounting possible
  • Compatible with furniture up to 16 mm thick
  • French artisanal manufacture

This minimalist storage unit combines two solid walnut battens with thermolacquered steel plates. The mechanism is remarkable, as Vincent Abraham points out:

“Honestly, the mechanism is fantastic on this product. You can put 60 records in and tip your 60 records onto one plate or the other: the product won’t move. It’s simple, but an ultra-efficient mechanism with a design we like and locally sourced products. That’s really something that suits us very well.”

  • Capacity: 60 records
  • Materials: thermolacquered steel / solid walnut
  • Weight: 2.2 kg
  • Made in France and Spain

Le Digger is an ultra-stable and functional vinyl storage bin. Its robust thermolacquered steel structure is complemented by solid walnut panels. The two storage compartments can hold up to 210 records, with the ability to flip through your collection like at a record shop.

Vincent Abraham emphasises the robustness of the structure:

“You can tip over the 100 records on top: the leg won’t move at all. That’s the strength of having robust and solid materials, particularly steel.”

  • Capacity: 210 records
  • Materials: thermolacquered steel / solid walnut
  • Weight: 24 kg
  • Made in France

Made entirely in France, La Console Vinyles Acier rests on a thermolacquered steel structure weighing over 30 kg. Its folds and welds absorb parasitic vibrations and ensure optimal stability for all your HiFi equipment. It accommodates a turntable and electronics on top, with two shelves for your devices. The lower storage compartment can hold up to 150 records.

For Vincent Abraham, this product perfectly embodies LOIA‘s ambition:

“What was interesting was being able to make a Made in France product accessible at 750 euros. It’s quite simple, but it works.”

  • Capacity: 150 records
  • Material: thermolacquered steel
  • Weight: 34 kg
  • Made in France

Le Meuble Digger represents the complete solution for collectors. Made in France, it rests on a thermolacquered steel structure adorned with walnut panels. Its folds and welds absorb parasitic vibrations and ensure optimal stability for all your HiFi equipment. The upper storage bin, inspired by the Digger model, can hold up to 110 records. The lower compartments can accommodate up to 240 additional records.

Vincent Abraham explains the design logic:

“If you look closely at the ConsoleAcier and the Digger, if you assemble them a bit, it makes the Digger Cabinet. It’s for people who want to organise with a turntable, electronics, plus a collection of up to 300 records.”

  • Total capacity: 350 records
  • Materials: thermolacquered steel / solid walnut
  • Weight: 48 kg
  • Made in France

Manufacturing quality and evolutions

LOIA has evolved its finishes following feedback. Vincent Abraham details this continuous improvement work:

“On the first finishes, we worked a lot with lacquer, so it’s very pretty, very smooth, but it could perhaps mark a bit. On the furniture, we’ve moved to slightly textured, like an outdoor bench. So there’s no scratching and you can move your items without getting micro-scratches on it.”

This pragmatic evolution illustrates the LOIA approach: listening to users and constantly improving products.

“For product durability, this texture allows you to move your items without micro-scratches. I’m a bit bothered by scratches, micro-scratches, small details. So we switched to this. It’s part of the optimisations.”

Thanks to its local manufacturing, LOIA can offer bespoke adaptations. Vincent Abraham confirms:

“We do them! There have been many bespoke furniture pieces. We’ve done quite a few custom pieces, 4-5 per model. It always brings an additional cost for the customer, it’s truly bespoke. But by being local, by being in relationship with our suppliers, these are things we’ve done in respectable timeframes: 6 to 8 weeks, we can deliver a bespoke piece of furniture.”

Who are these products for?

LOIA‘s clientele corresponds to audiophiles who want to showcase their system, not hide it. Vincent Abraham describes his customers:

“Honestly, we’re not going to have the ultra-precise, high-end, very audiophile clientele, because there really are people who go further in terms of structure. Our customers are people who are aware of having a quality HiFi system and being able to showcase it. Frankly, people who invest between 1,000 and 3,000 euros in a small system, that’s really our clientele.”

One aspect often comes up in customer feedback: design that appeals to the whole family.

“We’ve often had this feedback: it will at least please everyone in the household. People buy something technical, but that’s also beautiful and can please the whole family. We embrace HiFi products at home.”

Frequently asked questions about LOIA

Yes, local manufacturing allows for customised adaptations. Expect a lead time of 6 to 8 weeks and an additional cost for bespoke work.

Shipments are made on half-pallets or pallets, with appointment scheduling. The weight (up to 48 kg) is embraced as a guarantee of quality and durability.

LOIA favours reasonable dimensions. As Vincent Abraham points out:

“We don’t have big furniture, so we stay in this spirit where it remains for all types of rooms, for smaller living rooms. These are pieces of furniture that can be placed in an interior and appeal to everyone.”

The team regularly tests new avenues. Vincent Abraham confides:

“We’ve done a lot of testing. We also have a lot of cork here, so we’d like to do things with cork, because it’s a good absorption material. It makes sense, but sometimes there are things we manage to design and others less so.”
