What does the "B" in the X1 B turntable mean, and do I need specific equipment?
The "B" stands for "Balanced": in addition to the standard RCA outputs, the X1 B adds a balanced mini XLR output. Using it requires a specific Pro-Ject cable, a balanced phono preamp and an MC cartridge. In this pack, the turntable comes with an MM Pick It S2 cartridge and connects simply via RCA to the phono input of the Musical Fidelity A1 amplifier. The balanced output therefore remains an upgrade path, not a requirement for listening from the moment you receive it.
Does the turntable arrive adjusted, and can it be fine-tuned later?
All our turntables are mounted, adjusted and tested in our workshop before shipping, whether sold on their own or in a pack. The X1 B is a strictly manual turntable offering full adjustments (tracking force, anti-skating, azimuth and VTA), which is rare in this range and allows fine-tuning or fitting other cartridges later.
What is special about the Musical Fidelity A1 amplifier, and is it suited to the pack's speakers?
The A1 is a legendary amplifier that runs in pure Class A: it delivers 25 watts per channel into 8 Ohms, but with a substantial current reserve (up to 25 A) that gives it surprising ease. The maker intends it for two-way speakers or floorstanders with a sensitivity above 88 dB, the ideal being a good two-way model in a room of about 20 m². The pack's Sonus Faber Lumina II, a two-way bookshelf design, fits squarely within that scope. In listening, the A1 charms with its smoothness, fluidity and timbre quality, close to a tube amplifier. Note: running in Class A, it gets noticeably warm, its casing itself acting as a heatsink.
