The phono output cable is one of the most critical audio cables in a hi-fi system. The fragile nature of the analogue audio signals it carries requires special conductors with low capacitance and low resistance, so that all the musical information can be transcribed without loss or distortion.

Nordost Heimdall 2 + uses twisted pair conductors to create a left and right channel. They are individually shielded to eliminate crosstalk between the channels and keep noise to a minimum. To this is added a shielded, silver-plated Mono-Filament Micro link cable that runs along the left and right channels to help minimise noise and electromagnetic interference. However, what sets this cable apart from the competition is the grounding solution chosen by Nordost. The manufacturer offers detachable, silver-plated earth cables featuring Micro Mono-Filament technology. These earthing cables completely eliminate any noise that might be introduced during signal transfer.

The sound reproduction is both energetic and refined. The focus and clarity of the instruments are excellent, and the soundstage is very wide and deep. The lower end of the spectrum is powerful and punchy, and the various percussion elements are reproduced with precision and dynamism. With the Heimdall 2+ cable, the music seems more present, with a better distribution of the different sound planes. The whole bandwidth seems to have gained in clarity, detail and above all in nuance and refinement. We noticed that attaching only the earth cable to the turntable side considerably reduced hum and noise, but this varies depending on the turntable and phono preamp. In the best configuration, the level of silence is impressive. This cable generates no noise at high or low frequencies. The Heimdall 2+ is extremely versatile, offering playback without distortion or coloration, and above all superb balance. It brings out all the qualities of the cartridge used upstream and of course the musicality of the turntable.
