Rega Nd3: Nd Magnet Technology

Often used in moving-coil cartridges (including Rega cartridges), the N55 neodymium (Nd) magnet is being used for the first time in moving-magnet technology. It is the most powerful commercially available magnet in the world. It is, of course, the crucial component that makes this new design possible. It delivers greater power than standard moving-magnet designs.

Rega Nd3: Glass-filled PPS Housing

The entire generator assembly is housed in an injection-molded polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) housing reinforced with glass. This creates a lightweight and highly rigid material. This low-mass housing reduces stress on the tonearm bearings and promotes freedom of movement, which is essential for accurate playback of a vinyl record. This new housing was largely inspired by the manufacturer’s MC line. It is mounted using two hex screws in the cartridge inserts on a standard cartridge mount. If you own a Rega turntable, a third screw ensures better mechanical stability and greatly simplifies alignment and adjustment.

Rega ND3: Cantilever and Stylus

The Rega ND3’s cantilever is made of aluminum. It is fitted with an elliptical stylus. This profile offers exceptional tracking accuracy and allows for a high level of detail to be extracted from the grooves without distortion. The mechanical and electronic design of this cartridge is unique. It uses pivoting dampers that improve performance by eliminating the mechanical joint between the stylus tip and the main body. This significantly improves tracking and playback stability.
