Audio Technica AT VM 520x EB: Motor and Magnets
The motor is made up of dual magnets using "VM" technology. Instead of using a single large magnet, the two magnets are arranged in a "V" shape.
They are precisely positioned to match the left and right channel positions.
The VM design of this Audio Technica VM 520x ensures better channel separation and frequency response.
PCUHD (High Purity Oxygen-Free Copper) is now used for the voice coil conductors of all models. The number of winding turns has also been reduced, resulting in a more responsive, lighter sound quality and more nuanced musical expression. The entire AT-VMx series features a large central shielding plate between the left and right channels of the voice coil. This eliminates electrical crosstalk between the two generators and maintains high separation, improving stereo.
Audio Technica VM 520x EB : Corps
The VM520x EB's structure is fully designed to minimize vibrations in the cartridge body for the most accurate and clear playback possible. In addition, the body now features threaded inserts, making it easier to attach to the headshell. A V-shaped cutout has been added to the guard as a guide for the diamond position, improving visibility of the stylus tip when placing the needle on the record.
The connectors on this AudioTechnica are gold-plated.
Its mass, tracking force and compliance allow it to be associated with the majority of turntable tonearms.
Audio Technica VM 520x EB: Test and listening
With this VM 520x EB, we find the musicality and quality of Audio Technica cartridges. The restitution is relatively close to the MM AT 530 cartridge, with perhaps a little less finesse than the latter. This is due to the inferior quality of the diamond. We of course find the definition and clarity of the Japanese manufacturer's cartridges. Readability and tracking are excellent.
The Audio Technica VM 520x EB promotes precision and dynamics.
Its technical characteristics make it very versatile in terms of turntables and tonearms.
An excellent moving magnet (MM) cartridge that offers a nice alternative to Ortofon cartridges or Grado or Sumiko cartridges.

Cellule qui fait le Job
J'ai récupéré une SONY PS-X6, équipée d'une Cellule de la Marque (VL-30)... qu'il fallait vraiment "upgrader".
Cette Audio Technica VM 520 EB fait évidemment bien mieux, même si peut-être un peu trop de "Punch" dans le Haut Médium & Aigus.

Très bonne restitution des instruments, grave profond, top. Merci pour les conseils de Franck. Le montage se fait finalement bien. Par contre ma rega planar 2 répète tjs à 2 endroits du disque. Je n'arrive pas à savoir pourquoi. Malgré un réglage au top et à 2,20 grammes, requis max. Je trouve une meilleur que la rega bias 2 qui était trop douce.
Restitution parfaite
Je re-découvre mes vinyles avec cette cellule, les sons sont clairs et parfaitement restitués que ce soit en niveau faible ou élevé. Je recommande.
shure versus audio-technica
En remplacement d'une vieille (mais encore très correcte) cellule SHURE M75ED montée sur une THORENS TD165 1ère époque, voici mon avis:
- montage très simple de la cellule sur le porte-cellule (évidemment, il faut avoir gardé les vis format THORENS). De même, réglage très simple (c'est un des avantages des THORENS).
- par rapport à la shure cette AT va plus loin et dans tout le spectre sonore. Beaucoup plus de précision, et de profondeur.
Du coup, je suis plutôt content de mon achat (mais je garde tout de même la shure, qui est une bonne cellule)
