Is the silver Merlin Neo bundle ready to use straight out of the box?

Yes. Like every turntable we ship, whether sold on its own or in a bundle, the Merlin Neo is assembled, aligned and tested in our workshop before it leaves. It comes with its 9-inch TA-500 tonearm, the MCX-1 cartridge, a Platter Mat Carbon platter mat and an Audioquest Golden Gate phono cable.

Which phono stage should I pair with the MCX-1 cartridge?

With an output voltage of 0.55 mV, the MCX-1 belongs to the low output MC family: it needs a phono stage suited to moving coil cartridges, either an MC phono preamp or an MC step-up transformer. The manufacturer specifies an impedance of 7 Ω and a recommended load of 100 Ω. For this bundle, we offer the Acoustic Signature Tango Mk3, the Aurorasound Vida Prima and the Gold Note PH-5.2.

What technical solutions keep the Merlin Neo's rotation stable?

Drive is transmitted by belt from a separate AC motor, powered by an external 24 V DC supply and controlled by Level 1 AVC (Automatic Vibration Control). The 5.8 kg anodised aluminium platter (300 x 34 mm) spins on a Dura Turn Diamond® high-precision bearing, at 33.3 or 45 rpm. Technical terms are explained in our glossary.
