Description

The VPI Avenger turntable began as a project initiated over 15 years ago by Harry Weisfeld, co-founder of VPI. After being set aside for more accessible models like the VPI Classic, the Avenger is finally in production, leading a new range of four modular models.

VPI Avenger: Chassis

The VPI Avenger chassis consists of three distinct layers: a very thick, solid aluminum plate sandwiched between two massive black acrylic plates. A specific damping material is placed between each layer. This 3-layer sandwich adds immense mass and significantly improves rigidity, effectively limiting vibrations and preventing resonances. The assembly is secured at the corners by three 6061 aluminum cylinders for optimal stability. These corner posts can house up to three tonearm mounts of any brand or length!
The chassis features a 3-branch "star" shape, resting on three massive specific feet that provide perfect mechanical decoupling. The imposing drive motor is housed on the left in a massive cylindrical aluminum enclosure.

VPI Avenger: Tonearm

VPI selected the renowned JMW-12-3D tonearm for the Avenger. This 12-inch arm features two key characteristics: first, its unipivot design, where the rotation axis rests on a single point. Second, the entire arm is 3D-printed from Epoxy resin and Delrin. Internal wiring is done in-house using copper Litz wire.
The arm includes all essential adjustments: tracking force, azimuth, anti-skating, and VTA. The VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) is precisely adjustable via the "VTA On The Fly" system. The phono output features gold-plated RCA jacks and a ground terminal located behind the arm base.

VPI Avenger: Platter and Drive

The VPI Avenger is equipped with a massive 12-inch (30.5 cm) solid aluminum platter weighing 11.5 kg, paired with a rigid felt mat. The platter sits on an inverted bearing with a bearing ball at the tip.
The platter is driven by a round-section belt and a massive motor (the same as the VPI Signature 21) housed in a weighted stainless steel chassis. Since the motor has no direct contact with the plinth, the belt is the only connection, making vibrations virtually non-existent.
The drive pulley offers two steps for 33 and 45 RPM speeds. The turntable includes the VPI HR-X mass-aluminum record clamp.

VPI Avenger: Performance

The VPI Avenger and its arm are sufficiently neutral and precise to reveal the differences between two cartridges in seconds. Precise adjustment allows for 100% of the associated cartridge's potential to be realized.
Bass reproduction is powerful, remarkably articulated, and precise. The Avenger masters the lower spectrum perfectly, ensuring signal stability while capturing every nuance. The midrange and highs are exceptionally defined and transparent, providing an organic and realistic presence.
The VPI Avenger completely disappears, leaving total space for the music. The reproduction is never blurred or confused. It is a truly exceptional turntable, bringing music to life with nearly unlimited dynamics and an immense soundstage. It is designed for those who wish to rediscover the true richness of recordings with the intimacy of a live concert.
