Cellule MC Dynavector DV XX-2A

After almost 10 years of success, the Dynavector DV XX-2 was given a number of technical modifications and became the DV XX-2A.

Dynavector DV XX-2A: Body

This new version uses the same basic structure as the top-of-the-range Dynavector XX-2A and the Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua.

It has a hardened aluminium alloy body. This has been specially optimised to provide perfect rigidity and low resonance. It is finished in a satin black structured non-magnetic paint.

The chassis is fitted with threaded inserts for hexagonal mounting screws. Connection is via traditional silver-plated pins.

Dynavector DV XX-2A: Generator

The magnetic circuit is the ‘motor’ of an MC cartridge.

I incorporate Alnico magnets with low magnetic resistance. The XX-2A guarantees minimal fluctuation in magnetic force during disc playback. Compared with standard high-energy magnets such as samarium-cobalt and neodymium-boron, Alnico magnets contribute to a high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and excellent transient response. These patented softened magnets have been developed to reduce the distortion and high-frequency aggression caused by standard magnets.

In addition, patented Flux Damping technology stabilises magnetic flux in the air gap, ensuring consistent performance.

Stainless steel bolts secure the front and rear yokes and the magnets with great rigidity. The tightening torque during assembly, a crucial process for maintaining sound quality and guaranteeing optimum performance for each unit, is meticulously adjusted by a Dynavector technician.

With an output voltage of 0.28 mV, the Dynavector XX-2A is compatible with all the excellent MC phono preamps on the market, as well as MC transformers.

Dynavector DV XX-2A: Diamond and cantilever

The Dynavector XX2-A is fitted with a 6mm solid boron cantilever.

This reduces the mass of the moving part while retaining remarkable rigidity. The result is a wide bandwidth with precise high frequencies and magnificent dynamics.

This cantilever is fitted with a diamond cut with a complex Linear Contact PathFinder (PF) profile. Micro-Ridge. Although the part that comes into contact with the groove of the disc has a radius of curvature of just 2 microns, this profile offers great resistance to abrasion and enables it to deliver unrivalled performance without deterioration over a long period.

The Dynavector XX2-A has a compliance of 10mm/N and a weight of 8.2g, making it compatible with most light and medium-weight tone arms (between 9 and 20g).

Dynavector DV XX-2A: Testing and listening

This new Dynavector DV XX-2A performed very well in all the styles of music we tested. It excelled with string quartets, rock and electronic music.

The reproduction is very lively and offers an enthusiasm that is quite rare in this price range. The dynamics and sense of rhythm are remarkable, and you'll find yourself tapping your foot to the rhythm of the track you're listening to with the Dynavector XX-2A.

The midrange is very open and detailed, offering great expressivity and nuance. This is very demonstrative with a keyboard or acoustic guitars.

The vocals are also very natural, uncoloured and unrestrained. This DV XX-2A reproduces music with great emotion and realism.

This cartridge offers superb balance, coherence and musicality. Combined with an excellent preamp, it is capable of reproducing music with as much definition as musicality!
