La Pro-Ject X1 turntable is the entry-level model of the new "X" line from the Austrian manufacturer Pro-Ject. It replaces the 1-Xpression series which was successful for about ten years !
Pro-Ject X1: chassis
Even though it is a brand new product, you can recognize the DNA of the X series in this one. Pro-Ject X1. The overall dimensions remain unchanged, although the baseboard is thicker and made from a heavier, denser, and more rigid MDF.
MDF costs 2 to 3 times more than standard particle boards.
The lacquered finish is achieved by applying 8 layers of hand-polished paint.
The whole of the turntableRests on new feet made of an aluminum/sorbothane sandwich. They are also height adjustable.
Pro-Ject X1: motor and drive
Training of the Pro-Ject X1 is driven by a synchronous motor via a belt. This drives a counter-plate associated with an acrylic platter. This plateauIs thicker and heavier than on previous versions.
The engine receives a new suspension that offers better vibrational isolation from the engine to the arm and chassis.
Speed control and gear shifting are managed electronically via a new board. It generates a powerful and very stable sinusoidal alternating current.
Pro-Ject X1: tonearm and cartridge
We find the Pro-Ject 8.6 CC Evo tonearm in carbon, but in a new version. Even though it is not visible from the outside, it is made from a carbon and aluminum sandwich.
This new process, which had been implemented on the RMP 3 Carbon turntable, allows for better damping and a higher effective mass (10g). This makes the arm less sensitive to the low compliances of certain MC cells.
The counterweight has also been improved by the injection of a TPE damper. This arm offers adjustment of the azimuth and VTA, in addition to the tracking force and antiskating.
Standard, this X1 turntable deck is equipped with the new MM Pro-Ject Pick It S2 cartridge developed in collaboration with Ortofon.
Pro-Ject X1: phono cable
It should be noted that all the Pro-Ject turntables, even the entry-level models, come with a "real" phono cable, unlike many turntable competitors.
Le Connect It E is a phono cableLow capacity, equipped with shielding superior to standard modulation cables.
The signal coming from a cellule MM, and even more than one MC cell, is of a very fragile nature.
"Cheap" RCA cables do not provide the ideal conditions to fully and undamagedly transmit a proper phono signal.
Pro-Ject X1: test and listening
From the very first measurements, we are surprised by the level of transparency and detail that this offers X1.
The playback is clear, and at the same time, it cannot be described as surgical because it offers substance and a nice breadth.
Its personality seems to lean more towards neutrality than coloration, like some of its competitors.
The tempo is well marked and offers excellent "swing" on Jazz, Blues, and Rock. The tones are rich and pleasant.
La Pro-Ject X1 knows not to overdo it. It is not the most exuberant, but it is certainly one of the most realistic in this range. This characteristic also allows it to be relatively versatile with regard to different musical styles.
The soundstage is coherent and perfectly places the instruments, both in depth and width.
You got it, this Pro-Ject X1 turntable is not equipped with fancy features. Its strictly manual design and choices are due to decisions entirely dedicated to the quality of sound reproduction.
Moreover, its finish and "look" do not spoil anything and make it a desirable object. Ultimately, it also allows for many upgrades: phono cell, phono cable…
A success enjoying an excellent quality/price ratio. Highly recommended !

Perfect !
Super platine, outrepassant mes attentes. L'équipe de maplatine.com a été super réactive (suite à une erreur de ma part lors de la commande) et m'a remboursé très rapidement la différence. Les réglages de la platine sont top et les explications jointes sont claires. Seul bémol : la connectique fournie avec la platine n'est peut-être pas assez clairement notifiée dan le descriptif produit. Mais sinon, je recomande vraiment ce site et ce produit !

Bonjour,
Acquise pour remplacer ma très vieille platine Sony des années 80, cette platine est très réussie, élégante, sobre et restitue à merveille le son, avec beaucoup de détail tout en restant neutre.
J'ai ainsi retrouvé de la musicalité pour lire mes vinyles.
