Pro-Ject Debut Reference 10 turntable

The Debut Reference 10 sits at the top of the Debut range and has little left in common with the other models in the series. Its rigid MDF plinth is hand-finished with eight coats of a satin black finish and rests on three robust elastomer-damped aluminium feet that filter vibrations from the supporting surface and allow levelling adjustment.

Real Cable CBV Speaker Cables 130016

The HP Real Cable CBV is equipped and mounted with  excellent quality, 24k gold-plated multi-point banana plugs.

It is designed with OFC copper conductors  with a purity of 99.99%. These very fine strands receive HSCC (High Spec Copper Conductor) braiding and progressive double insulation (PP Gradient Insulation).

Does the turntable come with a cartridge, and can I upgrade it later?

The Debut Reference 10 ships with the Pro-Ject Pick it PRO B moving magnet cartridge, developed in cooperation with Ortofon, which delivers a very linear frequency response. It connects directly to the phono input of the Musical Fidelity A1 amplifier, which features an MM/MC selector. With its effective mass of 16.6 g, the 10-inch tonearm accepts the majority of MC cartridges, so you can later upgrade to a low-output MC cartridge without changing anything else in the pack. Note too that the Pick it PRO B allows balanced signal transmission, and the supplied phono cable, which is not captive, can be replaced with a balanced version if your phono preamp supports it.

Does the turntable arrive set up, and can it be fine-tuned afterwards?

All our turntables are mounted, adjusted and tested in our workshop before shipping, whether sold individually or as part of a pack, so the Debut Reference 10 arrives ready to play. Its high-end tonearm then lets you fine-tune azimuth and VTA, which helps you get the best from the supplied cartridge as well as from a future MC cartridge.

What is special about the Musical Fidelity A1 amplifier, and is it suited to the pack's speakers?

The A1 is a legendary amplifier that runs in pure Class A: it delivers 25 watts per channel into 8 Ohms, but with a substantial current reserve (up to 25 A) that gives it surprising ease. The maker intends it for two-way speakers or floorstanders with a sensitivity above 88 dB, the ideal being a good two-way model in a room of about 20 m². The pack's Sonus Faber Lumina II, a two-way bookshelf design, fits squarely within that scope. In listening, the A1 charms with its smoothness, fluidity and timbre quality, close to a tube amplifier. Note: running in Class A, it gets noticeably warm, its casing itself acting as a heatsink.

Is a separate phono preamp needed, and are these speakers easy to position and wire?

No separate preamp in this pack: the A1 includes a discrete-component phono stage with an MM/MC selector, to which the turntable connects directly.
