Description

The Indiana Line Nota 6 is the most ambitious model in the new Nota series. It is not really the evolution of a previous-generation Indiana Line model. It slots in between the Nota 5 and the Tesi 5. It is designed for amplifiers and medium-sized spaces.

Indiana Line Nota 6: Design

The Indiana Line Nota 6 is a medium-sized floorstanding speaker with an easy-to-accommodate MDF cabinet measuring 895 x 190 x 286 mm.

The side panels are covered with an elegant classic oak or black oak veneer. The other walls of the speaker are finished in matt black PVC, resistant to scratches and fingerprints. Slightly rounded edges give the whole a sense of softness without altering its sober, classic character. The clean, minimalist front baffle is enhanced by trim rings that elegantly conceal the driver fixings.

Indiana Line Nota 6: Technology

The speaker is built from very rigid MDF and braced horizontally with perforated panels, which limits cabinet resonances. These ring-shaped transverse braces have been placed at key points along the full height of the speaker to completely eliminate unwanted vibrations.

The top of the spectrum is reproduced by an excellent 26 mm textile dome tweeter. This high-frequency transducer features a radial damping chamber and a powerful neodymium magnet. Placing the dome in a custom waveguide effectively improves sound dispersion.

The midrange is handled by a 170 mm driver fitted with a polypropylene and mica composite cone, as on the Tesi range. The bass is also reproduced by a 170 mm driver fitted with a polypropylene and mica composite cone.

Both drivers are paired with a larger, more powerful magnet than on the Nota 5.

Combined with a new optimised suspension and a new motor system, they deliver excellent precision and remarkable clarity in the midrange, as well as excellent articulation in the bass.

The bass driver is bass-reflex loaded via a port that opens at the front of the speaker, making it easier to position.

The crossover has also been completely redesigned, notably incorporating air-core inductors for a remarkably even frequency response. It sets the crossover frequencies at 900 and 2,700 Hz. The crossover topology draws on solutions used in the manufacturer's high-end models.

Internal damping relies on a non-woven synthetic foam known to be an excellent absorber of internal cabinet resonances.

Connection to the amplifier is via a high-quality plated single terminal. It accepts bare wire, banana plugs and spades.

Indiana Line Nota 6: Sound

The Nota 6 is relatively easy to position. The best results were obtained by spacing the speakers between 2.8 m and 3 m apart. Placing them right against the wall is not recommended: keep them at least 30 cm away from it.

The 26 mm textile tweeter is back, delivering detailed reproduction without sibilance or any harshness, while remaining clear and detailed.

It is paired with an equally clear and present midrange with a lovely texture.

The bass is impressive for speakers of this size. It offers an excellent sense of substance, with surprising readability and scale. The Nota 6 even reaches very low: the manufacturer quotes 38 Hz, which is quite a feat in this range!

The Nota 6 is perfect for spaces between 20 and 30 m².

They offer an affordable solution and remarkable sound reproduction, unrivalled in this category.

FAQ: Everything you need to know before buying the Indiana Line Nota 6 speakers

What room size are the Indiana Line Nota 6 designed for?

The Nota 6 is perfect for spaces of around 20 to 30 m². This surface area is indicative: a larger room would require more power.

What amplification should I plan for the Nota 6?

The recommended amplifier power for the Nota 6 ranges from 30 to 160 W. Our experts pair them, for example, with the Rotel A10 MKII integrated amplifier or the Musical Fidelity B1xi, two amplifiers well matched to these floorstanders, and happily complete the system with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO II turntable.

How far from the wall should the Nota 6 be placed?

Placing the Nota 6 right against the wall is not recommended: leave at least 30 cm between the back of the speakers and the wall. The best results were obtained by spacing them between 2.8 m and 3 m apart, and their front bass-reflex port makes positioning easier. For more advice, see our article on the mistakes to avoid in hi-fi.

How are the midrange and bass handled on the Nota 6?

The Nota 6 assigns the midrange and the bass to two separate 170 mm drivers, each fitted with a polypropylene and mica composite cone, alongside a 26 mm textile dome tweeter. The crossover sets the crossover frequencies at 900 and 2,700 Hz, and the bass driver is bass-reflex loaded. The result is impressive bass for a speaker of this size, which the manufacturer quotes down to 38 Hz.
