Description

The design and engineering of the Emit series are carried out at Dynaudio Labs in Denmark. The Emit 20 is a finely crafted two-way bookshelf speaker featuring technology derived from the Danish manufacturer's high-end Confidence, Contour i, and Evoke series. The Emit 20 is an ideal speaker for medium-sized rooms and high-quality small hi-fi systems.

Dynaudio Emit 20: Construction

The Emit 20 speaker cabinet is made of 18mm MDF, covered in a Black, White, or Walnut laminate finish.
The loading principle is a rear bass-reflex design, which means the speakers should not be placed directly against a rear wall. It features a dual-flared design to reduce air turbulence and minimize unwanted noise.
The internal damping material is measured to the gram for a perfect combination of damping and tuning.
The drivers can be concealed behind magnetically attached grilles.

The Dynaudio Emit 20 is equipped with an 18cm MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) mid/bass driver. MSP is a material developed by Dynaudio and used by the manufacturer for several decades. It offers a good combination of lightness, rigidity, and damping.
The Emit 20 mid/bass driver is derived from the Esotec+ found in the Evoke series.
It utilizes a dual-magnet motor providing excellent displacement control and improved sensitivity.
The dust cap is part of the cone surface. The small dotted line around its edge is directly connected to the 38mm voice coil behind it.
This voice coil itself is made of copper-clad aluminum wire. Aluminum is lightweight, giving the driver a basic agility you might not find elsewhere, while the copper coating increases conductivity allowing for more power.
A high-quality dual-ferrite magnet system provides the power and controls the magnetic flux, redirecting it to the voice coil where it is most needed.

This driver is paired with a Cerotar tweeter, which is exactly the one found in the Evoke. It is derived from the award-winning Esotar Forty Anniversary and the incredible Esotar3, which you can hear in the Dynaudio Heritage Special and Dynaudio Confidence speakers. It is a 28mm fabric soft-dome tweeter with our special DSR (Dynaudio Secret Recipe) coating. This fabric soft-dome tweeter allows for the reproduction of all the details and openness of a work without adding listening fatigue. Behind this dome is the Hexis device, an ingenious dimpled inner dome located directly behind the playing surface that shapes airflow to optimize frequency response and eliminate unwanted resonances. This results in more precise diaphragm movement. It is driven by a Ferrite+ strontium carbonate ceramic magnet system for more sensitivity, improved clarity, and better dynamic response. These drivers are connected to a first-order crossover for the tweeter and a second-order topology for the mid/bass driver. It uses excellent quality components.

Dynaudio Emit 20: Installation

These Dynaudio Emit 20 speakers should be installed on a piece of furniture or on shelves at a height between 60 and 70 cm from the floor. The best choice will of course be to position them on dedicated stands. The best result was achieved by placing them 35 cm from the rear wall and 2.70m apart. The high-quality binding posts only offer single-wiring, and that's for the best. They are also quite sensitive to speaker cables. Depending on the associated amplifier, the choice of cable should be made with care.

Dynaudio Emit 20: Performance

From the very first bars, the Dynaudio Emit 20 presents a musicality that testifies to an excellent balance. They reproduce music with a very communicative energy. When well "driven," they show excellent rhythm reproduction and perfect mastery of the low end. The bass presence is surprising even though Dynaudio announces a frequency response only going down to about 53 Hz. But the low-end response seems much more significant when listening, with excellent control and remarkable impact. The Emit 20 delivers a midrange with surprising harmonic richness and surprising dynamics. It is paired with a very smooth treble and sibilance reduced to a minimum. Softness prevails over brightness, offering a prolonged listening experience that is absolutely not tiring.
Some speakers may seem more dynamic than the Dynaudio Emit 20, but certainly less balanced and less refined.
