Indiana Line Utah 8 : Drivers

The Utah 8 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker that, by name and design, pays homage to the roots of the Indiana Line brand.

High frequencies are reproduced by a 28 mm Aluminum/Magnesium dome tweeter. It is paired with an enhanced neodymium magnetic system, ensuring a subtle but open and spacious sound. It is equipped with a waveguide that optimizes dispersion and phase alignment.

The midrange is handled by a superb 18 cm Curv woven polypropylene driver. It features a second-generation Dual-Wave suspension and a cast aluminum chassis. Housed in its own enclosure to avoid resonances, it utilizes an UHVC (under-hung voice coil) driving system with a large ferrite magnet and a stabilizing copper shorting ring placed near the voice coil. Vents facilitate cooling.

The bass is delivered by a large 30.7 cm driver, the largest ever designed by the brand. It employs a Tri-Wave suspension and a new polypropylene cone, generating acoustic pressure levels in the bass that rival some subwoofers. The motor features two ferrite magnets and a four-layer copper voice coil, wound with thick wire. The Tri-Wave suspension eliminates intermodulation distortion and allows for a diaphragm excursion twice that of traditional solutions. This driver is placed in a bass-reflex cabinet with two ports that exit under the speaker's base.

The filter is based on the topology of other high-end 3-way models in the Indiana range, such as the Diva 6, Tesi 6, and Utah 5.

With an efficiency of 94 dB and an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms, the Utah 8 pairs perfectly with a wide range of amplifiers.

Indiana Line Utah 8 : Cabinet

For the first time in an Indiana Line speaker, an internally damped reinforcement system (DIRS) is used. Its primary function is to attenuate the vibrations generated by the bass and midrange drivers. Instead of allowing energy to propagate within the cabinet, the DIRS absorbs it at the source using special elastomer pads and a multi-planar reinforcement structure. The cabinet remains inert, thus avoiding any undesirable coloration.

The Utah 8 is available in two finishes: black oak or light oak, both featuring a matte black front. The Utah 8 is designed to deliver optimal sound when placed directly on the floor. Its cabinet features a subtly tapered rear edge, creating a natural inclination that ensures ideal acoustic alignment of the speaker relative to the listener and listening space, without the need for additional feet. This configuration minimizes floor reflections, significantly improving clarity and sound depth.

Connection to the amplifier is made via a quality speaker terminal that supports bi-wiring. Of course, we recommend using high-quality cable equipped with banana plugs.

Thanks to their 30 cm bass driver and well-designed, optimized cabinet, the Utah 8 delivers powerful, punchy, and physical bass.

This dynamic performance is perfect for rock, electronic music, and film scores.

Such a level of bass (30 Hz) is generally reserved for much more expensive and bulky speakers. However, they will require a room larger than 25 m².

Exceptional clarity can be found in the midrange, combined with smooth and precise highs. They offer a refined sound with outstanding dynamics, far surpassing the performance of competing speakers in this price range.
