Revival Audio Atalante 5: Drivers

With nearly four decades of experience and the design of some of the most renowned tweeters in the world, Daniel Emonts has designed the tweeter for the Atalante without any compromise.

The high frequencies are handled by a 28 mm soft dome tweeter that receives a RASC treatment. It also features the patented integrated ARID (Anti-Reflection Inner Dome) technology. The rear chamber of the driver incorporates a BCD damping system designed to absorb over 95% of the resonances generated by the moving assembly. This allows for a very low resonance frequency (560 Hz!). Its asymmetrical suspension provides more linear guidance without dome resonance. An oversized ferrite magnet (10 cm in circumference) achieves an efficiency of 91 dB.

The midrange is entrusted to a superb 75 mm (3 inches) soft dome driver. The inverted suspension ensures more linear guidance and resonance-free dome operation. The higher the frequencies, the less sound the dome emits. The specific shape of the suspension allows for better dispersion of waves to the sides.

This driver is exceptional for its range, and it is considered by Revival to be the best midrange driver on the market.

The bass is reproduced by a magnificent 30 cm driver equipped with a BSC (Basalt Sandwich Construction) membrane. The BSC, with its lightness and rigidity, provides an excellent transient response, quick and fluid, with deep, dynamic, and tight bass. This driver is equipped with an oversized ferrite magnet connected to a very open 10-branch chassis. It offers the best balance between rigidity and lightness.

At Revival Audio, the filter is designed through listening by placing real components on a test board and measuring and listening to the results with each modification. This allows for precise optimization that is fully aligned with the drivers and the enclosure. Revival always tries to use the fewest components possible to preserve the integrity of the signal. For the internal wiring, the designer has chosen Skyline Hybrid cables from Van Den Hul.

Revival Audio Atalante 5: Cabinet

The Revival Atalante 5 was created in collaboration with A+A COOREN DESIGN STUDIO in Paris. The cabinet is veneered in real walnut wood, either light or dark. A horizontal strip as well as the logo (laser-engraved) made from another type of wood are inlaid between the tweeter and the midrange.

If you do not want to see the speakers, you can hide them behind two fabric grilles secured by magnets.

The speakers are asymmetrical and are marked "right/left" for optimal placement. The tweeters are therefore placed outside the listening area. In certain specific cases, the manufacturer recommends reversing them.

The back of the speaker features a high-quality mono-wiring terminal. It is compatible with banana plugs or spade connectors. Above, there are two large ports that justify the bass/reflex loading.

The entire cabinet can rest on a wooden tube that allows it to be tilted backward to optimize acoustic dispersion. However, we recommend positioning the Revival Audio Atalante 5 on 40 cm high stands. The manufacturer offers specific stands, the Revival Audio Stand 5.

Revival Audio Atalante 5: Test and Listening

The Atalante 5 speakers completely captivate with their musicality, balance, and definition. The soundstage is remarkable for its breadth and precision. The Atalante fill the listening room with disconcerting ease.

The Atalante 5 are capable of reproducing complex works with precision, breadth, and dynamics. The presentation and mastery of the soundstage offered by these Revival Atalante 5 are nothing short of impressive.

The balance of the Atalante 5 allows for more comfortable reproduction of certain less well-produced albums. Indeed, lower-quality recordings, sometimes aggressive, seem less "harsh" and pass with more ease. The highs impress with their clarity and naturalness, without the slightest trace of unpleasant sharpness or bothersome peaks. While the combination of a soft dome tweeter and midrange might intuitively suggest a thicker sound, the midrange and highs of the Atalante 5 are, in reality, clear and smooth, adding presence and energy to voices.

As one could expect with the use of a 30 cm conductor and the announced 28 Hz, the bass is stunning! The kick drums have impact and breadth while providing subtlety. One can fully perceive the resonance skin and the skin struck by the pedal.

The bass or double bass is deep without masking the impact of the kick drum. The depth and power of the bass are remarkable, while being completely controlled. This excursion into the bass is surprising because few speakers in this category allow for such clarity in this register.
