The Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII G2 floorstanding speaker is the most powerful model in the Italian manufacturer's new G2 range. 

SONUS FABER SONETTO VIII G2: DESIGN

The latest models from the manufacturer feature the distinctive look and boat-shaped form, but with numerous modifications and improvements.

The Sonetto VIII G2 stands as an imposing floor-standing column, over 1.10m tall and weighing more than 45kg.

Like all Sonus Faber speakers, the Sonetto VIII G2 is beautifully crafted regardless of the chosen finish (Black Lacquer, Wengé, and Walnut).

The surround of the mid/high-range drivers is covered in leather.

The Sonetto VIII G2 is a true 3-way speaker (with 4 drivers), bass reflex, designed for use in large rooms of at least 30m².

SONUS FABER SONETTO V G2: SPEAKERS

The low frequencies are handled by two 200mm cellulose fiber drivers fitted with a new highly ventilated die-cast aluminum chassis. This ensures high rigidity, minimal resonance, and lightweight construction. These drivers operate with their own dedicated filtering and are loaded in their own chamber. The Bass/Reflex port exits under the speaker, radiating sound 360° around its base, extending the bass response down to 33Hz.

These drivers are complemented in the midrange by a specially developed 165mm "Camelia" cellulose fiber cone speaker. Its black rubber suspension connects to the cone via a floral pattern that enhances linearity and reduces interference, improving sound dispersion. This driver is housed in a unique cork-lined closed chamber shaped like a wave, and is filtered between 350 and 2500 Hz.

The high frequencies are handled by a superb 28mm DAD dome tweeter. To minimize distortion and high-frequency interference, the tweeter is isolated from the speaker cabinet with a viscoelastic joint and is filtered at 2.5 kHz.

The base of the Sonetto VIII G2 is made from a concrete composite, enhancing speaker stability, structural integrity, and rigidity. This innovative addition minimizes vibrations and ensures optimal performance. The base is equipped with decoupling spikes to further enhance sound clarity.

SONUS FABER SONETTO V G2: INSTALLATION

Setting up the speakers is relatively straightforward, though it requires careful consideration. Optimal results are achieved with excellent amplification and a quality audio source.

Placement is crucial for these speakers, and results can vary significantly depending on optimization and positioning. Ideal results were achieved by placing the speakers 3m apart and at least 80cm away from the rear wall (depending on its structure).

SONUS FABER SONETTO VIII G2: REVIEW AND LISTENING

The Sonus faber Sonetto VIII G2 speakers deliver remarkable performance in spacious rooms (around 30/40m²). They require high-quality electronics with ample power.

Like all models in the Sonetto G2 range, they effortlessly fill the listening space with natural, expansive sound. They prioritize scale and tonal quality, offering a wide soundstage and surprising depth. With excellent electronics and a top-notch source, the speakers allow listeners to focus solely on the music, disregarding their size and placement in the room.

The Sonetto VIII G2 provides deeper and more impactful bass compared to the Sonetto V, maintaining control and articulation. Dynamics and transparency in this range are excellent.

Similar to the Sonetto V G2, the sound appears less colored and more precise than previous models from the range.

True to the Italian manufacturer's signature style, the midrange and treble reproduction are outstanding, delivering presence and realism, particularly for vocals, while emphasizing musicality and emotion. The speakers excel in rendering beautiful, organic timbres, offering appreciable warmth alongside excellent transparency and definition.

The Sonetto VIII G2 represents a superb achievement, delivering a finely balanced sound and remarkable musicality akin to its more expensive counterparts like the Olympica III Nova, but at a more reasonable price.
