Description

The 700 Series from the British manufacturer represents the mid-range of their production, making the musicality and technology developed in the 800 Series accessible to a wider audience.

The compact design of the B&W 707 S3 bookshelf speaker delivers high performance and musicality in smaller spaces.

B&W 707 S3: DESIGN AND FRONT PANEL

The cabinet retains the traditional dimensions of small bookshelf speakers, making them easy to fit in limited spaces.

The B&W 707 S3 is available in two lacquered MDF finishes and one wood veneer option. The curved front panel and protruding drivers minimize edge effects, reducing coloration and enhancing soundstage.

It comes with a black or grey jersey fabric grille (white satin version), held by magnets, allowing for a clean look if the speakers are left visible. It is a two-way design, featuring a tweeter and a woofer on the front panel.

B&W 707 S3: TWEETER

The new B&W 707 S3 features the latest generation tweeter for high-frequency reproduction. This 25mm carbon dome tweeter, with damped decompression and a powerful circular magnet, reproduces frequencies precisely and without distortion over a wide range from 3 kHz to over 33 kHz.

The resonance frequency has been pushed above 47 kHz, ensuring unmatched clarity and precision with no audible high-frequency distortion.

B&W 707 S3: MIDRANGE/BASS

The midrange and bass are handled by a single 13 cm Continuum cone driver.

This membrane, developed over 8 years by Bowers & Wilkins, surpasses the performance of the Aramid fiber used in previous ranges. It ensures transparent and dynamic midrange reproduction and bass extension below 50 Hz. This technology is also found in the prestigious 800 Series models.

The driver is bass reflex-loaded with a Flowport™ vent at the back of the Hi-Fi speaker.

B&W 707 S3: CROSSOVER AND TERMINAL

The crossover has been completely redesigned from the previous version, using polypropylene capacitors with a 5% tolerance and precise air-core inductors.

It connects to a high-quality horizontal dual terminal, screwed onto an elegant "mirror" plate, similar to those found in the 800 Series. B&W maintains this tradition, whereas many competitors have reverted to single terminals. We prefer mono-wiring with quality jumpers replacing the plates.

B&W 707 S3: INSTALLATION

Setup is straightforward, requiring placement between 60 and 80 cm above the floor and avoiding close proximity to walls. At least 20 cm of space behind the speakers is recommended to maintain realistic bass.

B&W offers a specific high-quality stand, the B&W FS-700 S3, to optimize placement and performance.

B&W 707 S3: TESTING AND LISTENING

Initial measurements reveal the expressiveness and natural sound B&W is known for. These speakers favor neutrality over extravagance.

The transparency and precision are impressive for a product in this range. The accuracy of timbre and balance are significant strengths of the B&W 707 S3. The midrange is clean and detailed, paired with refined treble that contributes to the speaker's overall definition.

For their size, the bass is surprisingly clear and articulate, but placement and support significantly impact performance. Avoid placing them too close to a wall to prevent exaggerated bass response.

The B&W 707 S3 bookshelf speaker is an excellent choice for those seeking transparency and neutrality. Its understated design and musical qualities make it ideal for a compact, high-fidelity system.

Highly recommended!
