B&W 607 bookshelf speakers

The B&W 607 bookshelf speakers are replaced by the B&W 607 S2 Anniversary bookshelf speakers.

The B&W 607 bookshelf speaker is the worthy heir of the DM “Domestic Monitor” ranges by the British manufacturer. It is also the most affordable speaker offered today by B&W.

B&W 607: DESIGN AND FRONT PANEL

We find the common dimensions of the bookshelf speakers, even if these ones can be considered as quite large with their 30 cm high and 21 cm deep.

The speaker grille, made of black or grey jersey following the finish (black or white), is held on the front panel by magnets. This allows you to leave it completely blank if you remove the grille.

The front panel shows 2 transducers: a 25 mm aluminium tweeter.

B&W 607: TWEETER

The new 600 Series includes an improved version of the decoupled double dome tweeter.

The resonance frequency has been pushed to 38 kHz to offer outstanding clarity and precision.

B&W 607: SPEAKER

The midrange and the bass are reproduced by a 13 cm Continuum cone speaker. This cone developed over 8 years by Bowers & Wilkins has superior performance to the Aramid fiber used in previous ranges. It ensures a rendering in the midrange of incomparable quality in transparency and dynamics.

This speaker is loaded in Bass reflex with a Flowport ™ port that lead to the back of the speakers. Under this one, we find two gold-plated terminals.

B&W 607: WIRING

We can wonder what is the use of the bi wiring over speakers of this range, apart removing the “impurities” of the links?

We recommend you a good mono wiring by replacing the original links by more serious versions or simple speaker cable.

B&W 607: INSTALLATION

The execution is pretty simple and does not require precaution, except to put them between 60 and 80 cm of ground and not to place them too close to the wall. It is recommended to leave 20 cm behind the speaker if you want to keep a realistic bass.

The B&W 607 speakers are delivered with two foam filters that can be placed in the port to change the frequency response in the bass if necessary. B&W offers a high quality, specific stand for speakers, the B&W Stav24 S2.

B&W 607: TEST AND LISTENING

The restitution is surprising by its expressivity and natural. The transparency is also surprising and the spatialization is excellent. The timbre and balance are certainly the main advantages of this B&W 607.

The midrange is perfectly reproduced with a remarkable precision and clarity. The tweeter is of a great delicacy and largely contributes to the balance of this Hi-Fi speaker.

The bass is very present for a speaker of this size. Avoid stick them to a wall, so as not exaggeratedly and artificially increase this part of the spectrum.

This excellent B&W 607 bookshelf speaker is ideal for use in small environments and with small-integrated amplifiers of around 40 watts. Recommended!
