The Atoll CD100 Signature CD player is the third CD player of the French manufacturer's "Signature" range.
ATOLL CD100 SIGNATURE: HOUSING
The CD100 Signature comes in a new metal case with a superb 4mm brushed-aluminium front panel (silver or black)! Of course, this front panel takes the new design of Atoll products.
Below the tray, a low power consumption OLED display gives the different playback and range information. On each side, there are 3 control buttons that take over the main functions (play, stop, pause, forward/backward...).
The back panel provides an asymmetrical stereo analogue output, a digital output in S/PDIF coaxial format and a Toslink optical output.
ATOLL CD100 SIGNATURE: CHARACTERISTICS
The CD100 Signature player accepts CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs in MP3, WMA and AAC formats. It is also compatible with the CD Text if the CD has one.
This CD player features Teac Pure Audio CD mechanics optimized to reduce jitter to a minimum. It is mounted on a central anti-resonant chassis to avoid any vibration that would damage the playback.
The digital part uses a Burr-Brown conversion chip different from the Atoll CD50 Signature and CD80 Signature CD players. Atoll opted for the Burr-Brown PCM1793 for the CD100 Signature. It offers a resolution of 24 bit/192 kHz and changes the signal-to-noise ratio from 113 to 123 dB!
You can add an optional board, the Atoll CD Signature board. This one offers USB, optical, digital inputs, in order to use the internal digital-to-analogue converter of the player for outter sources.
To limit all interferences, Atoll opted for 5 regulated power supplies, dedicated to analogue and digital. The number of filtering capacitors has increased up to 8 090 uF on the CD50 Signature and 13 032 uF on this CD100 Signature!
The power supply of the audio stages is supplied by a specific transformer.
The analog output stages are symmetrical with discrete components that are fully polarized in Class A.
ATOLL CD100 SIGNATURE: TEST AND LISTENING
The Atoll CD100 Signature CD player remains accurate to the manufacturer in terms of balance and neutrality.
The restitution is precise and detailed, without highlighting too much the upper spectrum or mid-range. On the contrary, everything is at its place and in the perfect quantity!
We find excellent dynamics linked to a great transparency on the whole bandwidth.
Like all CD players by Atoll, we find the spontaneity and generosity with much more nuance, subtlety and matter.
The bass has also more strength and articulation than the entry-level models. The mid-range offers a wider harmonic richness and a more realistic presence.
Its lively and subtle restitution will please music lovers and audiophiles who love jazz, rock or classical music.
The Atoll CD100 Signature CD player is a real surprise with a remarkable quality/price ratio! The optional Atoll CD Signature board is also an additional advantage.
