Description

AudioQuest power cables regularly receive awards from the specialized press and enjoy a solid reputation among High-Fidelity enthusiasts. Their performance and the improvements achieved compared to stock power cords account for their lasting success.

The AudioQuest Storm Tornado 16A / 230V with C19 connector is part of the new generation of mains cables from the American manufacturer's Storm series. As the second model in the range, it integrates the active DBS (Dielectric-Bias System). This C19 version is specifically engineered to power demanding electronics with high current consumption.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado 16A / 230V C19: Features

This cable utilizes Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) and Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors. This combination reduces Transient Intermodulation Distortion (TIM) while ensuring more precise and faithful current delivery.

While low resistance is essential to handle high current demand, a cable's characteristic impedance is also critical for delivering optimal performance.

Unlike many cables that compress transients, AudioQuest mains cables combine low DC resistance with ZERO characteristic impedance, allowing high-current transients to be delivered without compression.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado 16A / 230V C19: Shielding & DBS

The Storm Tornado features AudioQuest's proprietary DBS (Dielectric-Bias System). An external pack applies a constant 72V electrostatic field across the cable's shield. All shields feature a dielectric whose electrical properties directly affect signal integrity.

The DBS shielding (patented by AudioQuest) creates a powerful, stable electrostatic field that polarizes the insulation, effectively reducing noise and preventing RF interference from entering sensitive electronics.

The DBS batteries offer an estimated lifespan of 10 years. An integrated test button on the pack allows you to easily check their status.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado 16A / 230V C19: Current Capacity

With a 16A current capacity, the Storm Tornado is perfectly suited for energy-hungry devices.

Power amplifiers present a real challenge for any power supply, as their transient current demands—though brief—can exceed average (RMS) current draw by several times. Their power consumption is dynamic, fluctuating with volume levels and audio content. Many high-end cables restrict these transients, but the Storm Tornado lets them pass uninhibited.

AudioQuest Storm Tornado 16A / 230V C19: Listening Test

The Storm Tornado effectively reduces mains noise and subjective distortion.

Playback gains dynamics and scale, featuring remarkably articulated and clear bass. The lower register stands out with uncommon depth and presence.

This cable also provides excellent resolution with nuance and subtlety, along with noticeable improvements in spatial imaging and soundstage presence.

Thanks to its 16A rating, the AudioQuest Storm Tornado 16A / 230V C19 power cable easily handles transient current peaks well beyond its continuous RMS rating. It is ideal for power amplifiers, large integrated amps, subwoofers, and high-end mains power blocks and conditioners.
