Who is the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne?
The Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne was created in 1989. And every year, no less than 60,000 spectators can discover the OSB, through concerts, of course, but also meetings during workshops, etc, and this throughout Brittany, from big cities like Rennes or Brest to the smallest towns.
THE COMPOSITION OF THE OSB
In this Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, there are no less than forty musicians, and numerous musical instruments: violins, cellos, double basses, flutes, oboes, clarinet, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timpani, etc. To join the OSB, an entrance exam is the mandatory passage! According to the musical compositions played, other musical instruments may be added to this initial distribution, such as a harp.
The OSB also welcomes musicians in residence for the season. During the orchestra’s concerts, you can also find guest solo musicians: pianists, flutists, violinists or cellists renowned in their field!
The Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne is directed by Grant Llewellyn, the music director. By collaborating with Marc Feldman, the general administrator of the OSB, he prepares the entire musical season of the OSB, in order to offer you works that are each one more beautiful than the last!
WHERE TO SEE THE OSB
In Rennes, the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne performs in several halls. You can find the orchestra at the Théâtre National de Bretagne (Brittany National Theater), at the Opéra de Rennes or at the Couvent des Jacobins (Jacobins Convent). Enough to welcome several hundred passionate people!
For all the other bretons in love with symphonic music, don’t worry, the OSB plays in other Brittany cities! Many OSB concerts take place in the Côtes d’Armor, Finistère or Morbihan. Sometimes the orchestra plays outside Brittany, with concerts in Paris or elsewhere in France.
THE OPENING OF THE OSB TO THE LARGEST POSSIBLE NUMBER OF PEOPLE
The Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne is devoted to introducing the world of classical and symphonic music to as many people as possible. Thus, throughout the year, the OSB organizes meetings and workshops to welcome families and school and non-school groups (leisure centre…).
For kids, the OSB also offers “Piccolo” concerts that are specially created for the whole family, from the youngest to the oldest. These concerts are commented by a musician or actor. A real moment of discussion, discovery and conviviality that gives access to music from a very early age!

The 2019/2020 season of the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne
The Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! On this occasion, the OSB has many special moments in store for you, from today until June 2020.
Placed under the sign of the “New Horizons”, this 19/20 season of the OSB is made up of over 120 concert dates, on more than 20 different themes. All year long, of course, there are symphonic works with compositions by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Ravel, and many others. The OSB also participates in the lyric season of the Opéra de Rennes and will be part of 3 operas: Maria by Buenos Aires, L’inondation and La clémence by Titus.
If you also enjoy more intimate performances, the OSB offers a series of “Chamber Music”, which this year will focus on the Romanticism. This is the occasion the listen to a music group from an orchestra in a more intimate place.
But the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, it is not only that! Indeed, for several years now, the programme has been more diversified. In a desire to demonstrate that the classical music can finally be contemporary! With the OSB, you can therefore enjoy concerts more in Jazz or even Pop register.
