Moon 110 LP V2 phono preamplifier

This new Moon 110 LP V2 phono preamplifier just replaced the well-known Moon 110 LP. It takes up this designation adding “V2” for “version 2”. That is normal, Moon is Canadian and therefore francophone, otherwise we would have had the famous “MK2”!

MOON 110 LP V2: CHASSIS

Seen from the outside, it looks like its big brother, the Moon 310 LP V2 phono preamp, but with a weight-loss cure... We find a very dark housing with a pretty black aluminium front panel. Moon only offers this finish.

We find on the back of the box, 2 pairs of RCA plugs (input and output).

The inside shows a derivative circuit from the former Moon 110 LP, with some components of the new 310 LP.

MOON 110 LP V2: SETTINGS

The big novelty of this 110 LP V2 phono stage is located under the device. Indeed, it offers several settings, which are this time easily accessible by the user.

The former version used to give settings possibilities, but you had to remove 4 hexagonal screws and displace some jumpers on the circuit. It is not asking the impossible, because only one manipulation is necessary.

The switches on the underside of the device adjust the load of the cartridge of 10 Ω, 100 Ω, 475 Ω and 47kΩ; the capacity of 0 pF, 100 pF, 330 pF and 430 pF; the gain of 40 dB, 50 dB, 54 dB, 60 dB and 66 dB.

These figures make it totally compatible with most of the MM cartridges on the market and a big part of MC cartridges.

A switch gives de possibility to select an IEC or RIAA curve.

MOON 110 LP V2: TEST AND LISTENING

The musicality of this 110 LP V2 is faithful to the brand’s DNA.

We find huge transparency and precision. The mid-range is clear and out of coloration.

The bass is very well exploited. It goes down very low with a surprising “punch”.

High frequencies are very natural and enable an aerial and nuanced restitution.

This Moon 110 LP V2 phono preamplifier is an excellent phono preamp, or even the best in this price range. Its balance, neutrality and transparency make it a best seller!
