Ever the perfectionist, the Austrian manufacturer has now released an upgraded version of their famous Debut Esprit: the Debut Carbon Esprit DC turntable.
It is available in seven different high-gloss colours ranging from black to white and including red and green, amongst others. This turntable is the most elaborate model in the range.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC : motor
Designed after the new Debut Carbon model, the Esprit DC features a number of specific improvements, and in particular a new AC motor with a new suspension, complete with two TPE vibration isolation bushings. It reduces vibration in the turntable and rumble, hence improving the signal-to-noise ratio.
The motor also features a new bearing with stainless steel spindle.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC : platter and speed change
The platter is crafted into a trued 300 mm single acrylic piece. It usefully replaces the felt platter mat, which had static building problems.
Unlike conventional steel platters, its low resonance frequency delivers a more neutral and evenly textured sound quality.
You can change the speed (33⅓/45 RPM) by moving the belt to the desired cog. The platter must be lifted to access the belt, which is very simple.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC : tonearm and phono cartridge
The biggest change has been to the tonearm. The original 8.6" one-piece aluminium tonearm has been replaced by a new and exclusive 8.6" one-piece carbon tonearm weighing only 6 g!
This significantly increases rigidity and provides much improved tonal neutrality and precision.
The new design of this Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC means that while it comes with the famous and efficient Ortofon 2M Red cartridge with an elliptical stylus, it is also compatible with a large selection of other cartridges.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC : cables
It is worth mentioning that the tonearm cables are not captive. So the standard cables can easily be replaced by higher performing models, such as Pro-Ject's 'Connect It' range.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC : listening and review
The sonic performance is very precise and well balanced. Reduced noise allows the listener to focus on the music and the details.
The sound stage is quite amazing for a turntable within this price range.
The technical and technological solutions adopted by Pro-Ject have proven once again to be a success. OK, it doesn't quite match the performances of its elder sisters, but you can't deny that the sound quality is excellent for a product under €450 with a phono cartridge!
Also, another great feature is its superb finish, regardless of the colour you opt for. This Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC turntable is yet another success for Pro-Ject! Another job well done!
CAUTION: Speed Box I, II and S are not compatible with the following DC motors: Debut Carbon, Debut Carbon Esprit, Debut Carbon USB.
