The NAD C588 turntable represents the most refined model offered by NAD. It showcases advanced performance and significant upgrade possibilities.

NAD C588: MOTOR AND DRIVE

The NAD C588 is equipped with a new AC motor featuring a new suspension system. This minimizes vibrations in the turntable, thus improving the signal-to-noise ratio.

The motor drives the sub-platter via a flat belt. Beneath the motor, there's a new bearing with a stainless steel shaft. It is powered by an external 15VDC power supply. A circuit converts alternating current into a stable 50Hz frequency.

Switching between 33⅓ and 45 RPM is easy but manual, achieved by lifting the platter and changing the belt position.

NAD C588: TONEARM AND CARTRIDGE

The tonearm originates from Austria (Pro-Ject), similar to versions found in EAT turntables. It's a 9-inch carbon arm with a solid aluminum cartridge mount, weighing 9.5 grams effectively.

Its excellent rigidity provides neutrality and allows for pairing with high-quality MM and low-output MC cartridges.

Tracking force is adjusted using a non-graduated stainless steel counterweight, requiring a balance. Antiskating is applied laterally via a graduated wheel. VTA adjustment and azimuth can also be fine-tuned.

The turntable comes standard with an Ortofon 2M Red MM cartridge, upgradeable to a 2M Blue stylus or a recommended low-output MC cartridge.

NAD C588: PLINTH AND PLATTER

The plinth is made of high-density MDF covered with satin black paint.

The platter is made of 10mm silica (glass) with a mass of over 1.8 kg. It naturally comes with a felt mat, replaceable in the future with a leather one to minimize static effects.

NAD C588: PHONO CABLES AND ACCESSORIES

It's worth noting that the tonearm output cables are not captive, making it easy to upgrade to higher-performing models.

The NAD C588 turntable also includes a translucent protective dust cover.

NAD C588: TESTING AND LISTENING

From the outset, it's evident that it surpasses the NAD C558 in almost every aspect. Bass is more impactful and controlled, offering greater depth.

Voices are present and realistic, complemented by a detailed midrange. This transparency doesn't compromise coherence or amplify clarity. The highs accentuate details, offering transparency without harshness.

The NAD C588 provides a precise and coherent soundstage without projection, offering ample space for each instrument. It also delivers impressive depth.
