Description

British electronics manufacturer Roksan is first and foremost renowned for the quality of its analogue turntables. They have always been part of relatively expensive price ranges. However Roksan now offers a complete turntable featuring many innovations at a price below 1,500 euros for the enjoyment of all.

ROKSAN ATTESSA: CHASSIS

First off, the design is pretty innovative and, honestly, it stands out beautifully from the competition.

This chassis with rounded edges comes in white or black. The finishing looks like Corian. There’s a discreet black headband extending across the turntable from left to right. On the left, the headband features the power button and two speed buttons for 33 and 45 rpm.

ROKSAN ATTESSA: PLATTER

The platter of the turntable is very unique. It’s made of 10 mm thick high mass tempered glass trimmed with spun and anodised aluminium edging. It allows to reduce resonance and vibrations as well as drastically increasing inertia while spinning without the need to add weight to the platter.

The chassis comes with the traditional Roksan wool felt platter mat with the six cut-out triangles in the middle. It may look “exotic” but Roksan insists it has an impact on sound reproduction.

ROKSAN ATTESSA: TONEARM AND PHONO CARTRIDGE

The Roksan Attessa turntable features a unique and proprietary tonearm.

This unipivot tonearm was created with computer-aided modelling. Roksan’s engineering office designed it with the aim of offering a high-performance tonearm relatively easy to produce and use. The single pivot is in charge of both vertical and horizontal movements. Tracking force is applied via a counterweight on a threaded bar. Antiskating is corrected using a small hanged weight.

The Roksan Attessa is mounted as standard with the Roksan Dana cartridge unsurprisingly made by Audio-Technica. However, this cartridge uses a Titanium stylus.

ROKSAN ATTESSA: SPEED CONTROL

Regarding ergonomics, the Roksan Attessa includes electronic speed change to choose between 33 and 45 rpm.

This oscillator is associated with a pretty complex regulator ensuring ultra-precise spinning not so dependent on mains voltage and frequency.

ROKSAN ATTESSA: TESTING AND LISTENING

Sound reproduction is precise, very structured and gorgeously detailed, particularly with midrange where voices are reproduced with superb readability. Treble is very rich as well.

The overall neutrality really does analogue recordings justice. The timbres are full-bodied and precise, without providing excessive warmth which could affect realism. Dynamics are excellent and contribute to the naturalness and overall expression. You simply can’t get bored with the Roksan Attessa! Low frequencies are wide and precise, they remain controlled and very fluid.

The built-in phono stage is fully usable and really stunning… it seems superior that of an amplifier below 2,000 euros!

You guessed it, the Attessa is an affordable turntable from Roksan  … the brand spared no technology or musical expenses however, and the expertise used in the product make it a real opportunity. A special mention must go its midrange which is surely one of the best in this category!
